Review from A. Anonymous, Alberta For Texas Ice Storms. If You're Not From Texas It Doesn't Snow Here Just Freezing Rain That's Like Grease On Glass. I Don't Care Where You're From Or If You've Got 4-wheel Drive When The Streets Are The Same As A Hockey Rink There's No Way To Stay On The Road. Unless You've Got These Bad Boys On Your Drive Wheels. Then You're Like A Tank And Nothing Is Stopping You From Getting Up That Hill Or Down It For That Matter Without Skidding. In Fact These Leave Marks In The Ice Like Tank Tread. Just Pull Past All The Cars Sliding Around Without Any Traction At All. Of Course If You're Texan You'll Be Helping Pull Them Out Of That Pickle With That Tow Rope You Keep In Your Truck Anyway.

Security chain z 571 performance traction (Z571) Review

Review from M. Kimberly, Rheinland-Pfalz
Takes Some Getting Used To. There Is A Hook Which Needs To Have A Loop Put Into It On The Inside Of The Wheel. It Can Be Difficult To Do This When Your Fingers Are Cold Since You Can't Feel The Metal All That Well. I Have A Honda Civic And The First Couple Times I Put It Together I Didn't Realize There Was Enough Slack In The Fit To Allow Me To See The Hook And Loop While I Was Getting Them Mated Up. Depending On The Ambient Conditions (snow Depth) You May Or May Not Be Able To See This Junction. The Fact There Is Enough Slack To See It Is Both Good And Bad Since There's No Lock For The Hook: It Is Pretty Easy For It To Become Unhooked Which Is What Happened The First Time I Tried To Use Them. I Haven't Tried Other Brands. This Is The First "traction Enhancement Device" I've Used. I Studied The Videos Prior To Mounting Them And The First Mount Was Done In A Garage. But I Didn't Get The System Quite Tight Enough Despite Following All Instructions. So When I Got Out In Deep Snow It Came Apart And I Had A Pretty Miserable Time Of It Getting Them Back On While Stuck In Snow. I Consider The Videos Pretty Misleading Because They Don't Go Over The Best Ways To Handle The Hook Problem. I Also Learned That With Chains You Should Not Use The Rocking Back And Forth Technique To Get "unstuck" Since That Makes It Real Easy To Throw Off Devices Like These. After Proper Mounting They Worked Ok.

Image of Security-chain-z-571-performance-traction-(z571)"Read All The Reviews For The 2 Options For My Wheel/tire Size 285/70/17. I Decided To Go With The Z-583 Since The Sz 462 Could Possibly Be Too Large For My 33's And But Perfect For 35's. The Z-583 Fit Just Right On My Bfg 285/70/18 Rock Warrior Wheels. I Did Email Scc And The Kind Lady Returned My Phone Call Request As Mentioned To Confirm That Both Part 's Would Fit My Application. Thank You. I Also Purchased This Set Under The Used But New Category. I Figured They Didn't Fit For Someone Else And Had Never Been Used. These Were Exactly That New Never Used."

There Are A Confusing Array Of Tire Chains/traction Control Devices On The Market And Even This Particular Company Makes So Many Different Models That It's Hard To Tell Which Ones Are The Best. Here's What You Need To Know About Chains And Traction Control Devices And Why I Like The Ones Made By Scc. I Also Include Some Installation Hints At The Bottom Of This Review. There Are Two Broad Types Of Traction Control Devices: Tire Chains And Traction Control Cables. Tire Chains Are Actual Chain Links. Traction Control Cables Are Long Pieces Of Metal Cables Covered In A Plastic Coating And Designed To Form A Z-pattern Over Your Tires. The Plastic Coating Is Then Surrounded By Hundreds Of Tiny Round Metal Springs. Cables Are Generally Regarded As Better Because They Are Easier To Install Last Longer Are Less Damaging To Roads And Work Better With Vehicles Equipped With Abs. Also According To Scc You Can Safely Drive With Cable Devices Up To 30 Mph Even On Roads With No Snow Without Damaging Them. You Should Normally Install Traction Control Cables On Your Drive Wheels I. E. The Wheels That Actually Push Or Pull Your Car Forward. If The Snow Is Really Bad Though You May Have To Install Cables On All Four Wheels. Read Your Vehicle's Owner's Manual For More Details On Where To Install Your Cables. In Any Case It's A Really Really Good Idea To Have Two Sets Of Cables In Your Car At All Times. That Way If Something Breaks (murphy's Law) You Won't Be Stuck. Within The Traction Control Cable Category There Are Two General Types Of Cables: Self-tensioning Cables Tighten Themselves Using A Tensioner (which Looks Feels And Operates Like A Rubber Band) That You Install When You Put The Cables On. Manual Tensioning Cables Are Tightened By You And Have To Be Re-tightened After You Drive For A Couple Hundred Feet Or So. I've Heard That Emergency Vehicles Tend To Use The Manually Adjustable Models Because They Are Allegedly Safer At Speeds Above 30 Mph But Driving Above 30 Mph For Any Non-emergency Personnel Is Illegal With Any Kind Of Traction Control Device. There Are Several Advantages To The Manually Adjustable Models. They Tend To Have More Slack Which Can Make Installation Easier. Also The Tensioners (i. E. Rubber Bands) On Self-adjusting Cables Can And Do Break (it Happened To Me Today) And If They Break You Can't Use The Cables. So If You Get A Cable That Has A Tensioner Get Extra Tensioners Or Better Yet An Extra Set Of Cables Just In Case. Here's A Breakdown Of Scc's Cable Products: Z-chain- Manually Adjustable Traction Control Cable. Easy To Install But Must Be Retightened Shortly After You Start Driving. Very Easy To Install Because They Come With Lots Of Slack. Often Used By Police And Fire Personnel. Shur Grip Z/super Z Lt- Self Adjusting Cable. Tensioners Can Break So Buy Extras. Less Slack So Can Be Harder To Put On The Car But Generally Easier Than Z-chains Because You Don't Have To Manually Tighten And Re-tighten Them. Super Z6/z8- Newest Self Adjusting Cable Designed For Vehicles With Very Little Sidewall Clearance. They Have All The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Shur Grip Z. In Addition However The Connectors Are A Little Harder To Work With On This Model Because Of Their Low Profile. On All Of These Models The Metal Rings Are Made Of A Spring-like Material Scc Says That You Don't Have To Remove The Chains As Soon As You Reach A Paved Road. Rather As Long As You Drive Under 30 Mph Scc Says That You Can Drive With The Traction Control Cables On Your Car Even As You Switch Between Plowed And Non-plowed Roads. Because Each Of The Hundreds Of Little Springs Are Separate Pieces Even When One Breaks It Just Falls Off And The Others Work To Fill-in The Void. Installing The Cables Is Relatively Easy And I'm Definitely Not A Hands-on Kind Of Guy. It Took Me About 15 Minutes The Very First Time And Now That I've Done It Several Times I Can Get It Done In Under A Minute Per Wheel. You Should Always Do A Test-installation Of Cables Before You Need Them To Make Sure That You Purchased The Correct Size And Know How To Install It. It's Also Very Useful To Have Some Waterproof Gloves Handy And A Towel With You As It Is Often Wet And Cold When You Need To Install Chains. A Good Choice For Gloves Are The Long Wristed Rubber Gloves That You Can Buy At The Grocery Store For Washing Dishes Or Some Disposal Latex Gloves. After You Use The Cables For The First Time Fold Each Cable Separately And Then Use A Trash Bag Tie To Keep Each One Together. Otherwise The Next Time You Need Them They'll All Be Tangled Together. Here Are Some Hints On How To Install These Chains. 1. Read The Instructions From The Manufacturer And Pay Close Attention To The Safety Instructions. The Basics Of The Instructions Are (1) Stay Safe (2) Position The Cables Correctly (3) Connect The Upper Rear Connector (4) Connect The Upper Front Connector And Tighten It (5) Connect The Lower Front Connector And Tighten It (6) Drive For A Bit (7) Retighten The Front Upper And Lower Connectors. The Instructions Are Quite Good But They Leave Out A Few Helpful Hints Which I Will Now Share With You. 2. Put On Some Rubber Dishwashing Gloves And Lay A Towel Down Wherever You're Going To Work Or You Will Get Very Very Dirty. Before You Start Make Sure You Have The Correct Side Up! There Are Markings All Over The Cables Which Indicate The Correct Orientation. Look For Them! 3. When You Slide The Cables Under Your Tires Start From A Point Between Your Front And Rear Tires. Slide Half Of The Chain Under Your Car And Then Reach Around From The Other Side Of The Tire To Pull The Cable Around. Although The Instructions Describe A Swinging Slide Motion I've Never Seen Anyone Who Could Do That Without Twisting The Cables Up. Just Pull Them And Things Will Be Much Easier. 4. Once The Cables Are Around The Tire Do Not Pull The Bottom Connectors That Hold The Cables Together At The Bottom Of The Tire Towards One Another. Keep Them As Far Apart As Possible. If You Pull Them In Tight You Won't Be Able To Pull The Chain High Enough In The Back To Connect The Rear Upper Connector Which Is What You Are Supposed To Do First. 5. When You Are Connecting The Rear Upper Connector If You Can't Get The Rear Upper Connectors Up Above The Tire So That You Can See Them Push The Part Of The Cables That Surround The Bottom Of Your Tire Backwards And Under Your Car A Few Inches. This Will Create Slack Behind The Cables And Allow You To Pull The Cables Up In The Back. 6. Once You Have The Rear Upper Connector Connected Hooking Up The Front Upper Connector May Be Difficult. Try Pushing The Rear Upper Connector Back So That It Is Laying Against The Inside Sidewall Of Your Tire And Then Pull The Front Upper Connectors Towards You As Hard As You Can. Don't Try To Pull Them Towards Each Other. While Sitting Just Pull Them Straight Out Towards You And The Rest Of The Chains Should Fall Into Place. Then They Should Be Easy To Connect. With This Chain There Are Multiple Connector Notches. Get The Chain Connected To Whichever Notch Is Easiest And You Can Pull Them Tighter Later. 7. Gently Pull The Parts Of The Chain That Criss-cross Your Tires Down Towards The Ground So That They Aren't All Bunched Up At The Top. Look At The Chain And Make Sure That The Parts You Can See And Especially The Blue Cable Is Evenly Distributed Around The Tire. 8. Then Pull The Bottom Front Connectors Towards You (out But Not Up Or Down) To Create Slack. Then Connect Them. Again Don't Try To Pull Them Towards One Another As That Makes It Almost Impossible To Create Slack. With This Chain There Are Multiple Connector Notches. Get The Chain Connected To Whichever Notch Is Easiest And You Can Pull Them Tighter Later. 9. Now Pull The Top Connector Which You Attached In Step 6 Towards You Firmly To Remove The Slack And Tighten The Connector. Repeat With The Bottom Connector. The Top And Bottom Connectors Should Be Within 1 Notch Of Each Other. 10. Drive Your Car A Few Feet And Repeat Step 9 Above.

I. Ophelia, Durham

I Am A Female Who Lived My Entire Life In The South. So No Snow Ever. Moved To The Mountains And Had To Get Chains But Was Very Nervous About Being Able To Put Them On. These Were Super Easy To Put On. The First Time There Was A Little Bit Of A Learning Curve But Now I Can Put Them On In About 5 Or 10 Minutes While My Car Is Warming Up. It Just Took Me Some Time To Adjust Them And Get Them Tight Enough Around The Tires (because They Will Come Off If They Are Not Tight Enough). I'm Not Super Strong So It's Hard For Me To Pull Hard Enough To Adjust So I Just Put Them On As Tight As I Can And Drive Down The Road A Little And Then They Seem To Loosen Up A Little And I Can Tighten Them A Lot More. As For Performance They Are Great! I Have A Little Front Wheel Drive Hyundai That Does Not Do Well In Snow At All. And It Has Very Little Clearance For Chains. But These Cables Sit Very Low And Do Not Require Much Clearance To Attach. My Car Never Gets Stuck. Even Through A Few Feet Of Snow. Lastly The Gloves Are Super Helpful In Keeping Your Coat And Hands From Getting Dirty. They Come Way Up To My Elbows. Also I've Never Ridden In A Car With The Big Clunky Chains But These Are Not Too Bad In Terms Of Making For A Bumpy Ride. I Try To Keep My Speed Just Under 30 But Sometimes I Find Myself Up At 40mph And They Don't Come Off. I Highly Recommend These And No I Didn't Get Anything For Free For Writing This Review:) I'm Just Really Happy With These Chains.

Quality Chain Cobra Cable Passenger Snow Traction Tire Chains (1046)

Quality-Chain-Passenger-Traction-Chains

Review from O. Brenda, New South Wales I Have Used These On My Car 3 Times This Winter. I Was Able To Put These On My Car All By Myself As A Woman Who Is Not Afraid To Do Stuff On My Cars. My Car Handled Very Good In Western Ny Winter I Even Put Them On When We Had The Blizzard This Year. I Am A Healthcare Worker So I Get Called Into Work On These Tough Winter Driving Days. I Was Able To Watch The Video On How To Install Them On Youtube And That Was Very Helpful. You Must Remember To Never Drive Over 30 Mph With Them On Your Car. But If Your A Smart Winter Snow Driver And The Road Conditions Are Bad You Should Never Be Driving Faster Than That Anyway. I Want To Buy Another Set. You Do Have To Buy The Yellow Tightener Separate But I Recommend Them Highly.

Quality Chain Cobra Cable Passenger Snow Traction Tire Chains (1046) (Auto Accessory) Review

Review from N. Carol, Rutland
As I Predicted When I Purchased Them They Arrived After The Snow And Ice Started To Melt So I Won't Find Out How Good They Really Are Until Next Winter. This Item However Does Not Come With The Chain Tensioners Pictured Both In The Item Listing And On The Box. Those Are A Separate Purchase: Quality Chain 0212 Spider Passenger Tire Chain Adjustor. For That Reason I Won't Be Giving This Item 5-stars Even If They Work Great. The Seller I Bought Both Items From Could Have Made Arrangements To Combine Shipping As I Ordered Both Items At The Same Time But They Didn't. They Charged Me Full Price For Shipping On Both Items. Whatever. I Have My Tire Chains Now. Update: It Is Now Roughly 10 Months Since I Received These Tire Chains And I Have Used Them Multiple Times This Winter Already. There Have Been Days Where I Would've Been Completely Helpless To The Ice/compacted Snow On The Roads Had I Not Had These In My Trunk All Winter. They're Not Difficult To Put On Although I've Found That Many Times I Don't Need To Put Them All The Way On To Self-recover My Vehicle. Simply Laying Them Out In Front Of The Rear Wheels Usually Gives Me Enough Traction To Get Myself Un-stuck. I Have Found As Well That They Are Excellent For Digging Tire-shaped Holes In The Yard Next To The Driveway. I Might Have Trouble Explaining That One To The Land Lord Come Spring.

Image of Quality-chain-cobra-cable-passenger-snow-traction-tire-chains-(1046)-(auto-accessory)"These Are Good Quality Chains Well Suited To Emergency Use. I Would Not Pick These If Your Need Is For Chains That Will Stay On For Long Periods Of Time - They Are Really Too Light For That Sort Of Use. However If Like Me You Simply Need A Set That Lives In The Back Of The Car/truck And Go On For Occasional Use Then These Are Great. The Lighter Weight Makes Them Both Easy To Stash And Easy To Install And Yet The Quality Is Good So They Are Not Going To Fall Apart First Time You Stress Them. I Used Them Recently To Help Pull Another Car Up A Snow-packed And Icy Hill They Were Unable To Climb On Their Own. Without The Chains - No Go. With The Chains - No Problem. They Held Up Well To That Load. Note: The Price Is Per Pair So Two Sets Cover All Four Wheels. Not Sure Why Some Reviewers Missed That Fact. Also: Buy A Set Of Chain Tensioners To Go With Them Because These Do Not Come With Any. No Chains Are Going To Stay Put Unless You Use Some Type Of Tensioning System. I Bought The Rubber Bungee Type Tensioners Made By The Same Manufacturer: Online Store/gp/product/b005oiuqdy Just Be Sure To Match Proper Size And These Also Work Well And Also Stash Easily."

After Watching Youtube Videos From The Washington State Department Of Highway Safety On How To Use Chains For Your Car. I Definitely Would Recommend Purchasing The Tire Chain Rubber Adjuster Spider Bungee With You Chain Order. Fit Perfect On My Tires And Stayed On With The Chain Rubber Adjuster Spider Bungee.

Anonymous, Leeds My Husband And I Bought These For Our New Mountain Home For Our Very Steep Driveway To Get In And Out Of And We've Been Very Disappointment With The Quality Of This Product. We Do Not Drive Our Truck With Them On Unless There's Snow But We've Had To Replace About 6 Links So Far Since They Keep Breaking On Us (mainly On The Righthand Side) And If We Don't Fix The Broken Link Right Away They Won't Fit Securely On So They Won't Do The Job And They Are A Necessity In Our Precarious Driveway. We Found That Its Better Way To Go And To Pay A Steeper Price For Chains Rather Than These For Your And Your Family's Safe Keeping!

Well Constructed And Works Well On Ice. Live On A Mountain Dirt Road And These Chains Have Been Great.
SECURITY-CHAIN-COMPANY-QG2828-TRACTION-(AUTO-ACCESSORY)
Image of Security-chain-company-qg2828-traction-(auto-accessory)"Easy To Install And Provide Great Traction!! Only Rated A 4 Because The First Time I Used Them I Had 2 Cross Links Come Apart At The Connections. After I Removed Them I Went Through And Tighten All The Links At The Connection Points Have Never Had An Issue Again. Would Recommend Doing This Before First Install."

I Live In Washington State And Always Been Concerned About Traction Needs In The Winter Months. Many People Like The "cable" Type Of Tire Chains Since They Are "springy" And It Makes Installing Them Easier (versus Actual "chains" Like These That Don't Stay Straight Across The Tire Are Much Heavier Etc). However I Was With Some Others When We Ended Up Sliding Off The Road. We Instantly Intalled Some Of Those "cable" Type Chains For Trying To Get Back On The Road But The Cable That Goes In A Circle Broke Instantly At One Of The Joints (where A Cable Going Across The Tire Joined It). So That Instantly Made Me Lose All Faith In Those Styles Making Me Want Something That'll Hold Up In Any Situation. These Have A Small Bar Welded To Each Chain Link That Contacts The Road To Help Give Better Traction And/or Longer Life Making Them More Expensive Than Many Others. I Did Have A Set Of These Where A Link Broke Right Where There Was One Of Those Welds So The Weld May Have Weakened It. I've Not Had That Happen Again But Haven't Used Them That Many Times Every Year Either. The Big Thing When Installing Any Kind Of Tire Chains Is To Remember That You Want Them To Be Tight And Virtually Part Of The Tire While On The Road. Don't Just Drape Them Over The Tire Connect The Hooks To The End Link Of The Chains And Start Driving Because They May Flop Off The Tire Easily Start Whipping Your Fenders Or Even Catch On Things Like A Brake Line Ripping The Car Apart. You Want To Work All The Slack You Can Out Of The Chains And End Up With The Same Number Of Loose Links On Both Sides Of The Tire. If You End Up With 1 Or 2 Links On Each Side That Can Flop Around That's Not A Big Deal But 3 Or More Can Again Damage The Car. To Contain Them Hold The Hook Place The End Link That Can Flop Around On It Then Place The Hook In The Link That Makes It Tight And The End One Will Be Trapped. Many Oems Recomend Driving A Few Blocks On Them Then Checking Them Again For Slack. Besides Doing These Things Having The "chain Tighteners" (that Are A Huge Rubber Band) Or Some Short Bungee Cords To Constantly Be Pulling Them Tight To The Tire Helps As Well (with Those Taking Out Any Slack You Missed). With These Installed Correctly They Will Be As Good As Any Others & Last As Long Or Longer.

These Chains Are Awesome! I Live In The Mountains Of Utah And Plow My Own Dirt Driveway. I Use These On The Front Axle Of My '92 F 250 And Standard Ladder Chains On The Rear. I Haven't Gotten Stuck Nor Have Had Any Issues With The Chains. Turning Around On An Incline They Bite Like A Pit Bull! They Will Not Let The Truck Slide Down! I Leaves The Chains On Since I Only Plow My Own Drive And Fill It With Gas Cans Thus I Really Know How Long They Would Last If Travel Was Necessary On Regular Roads. I Don't Believe They Are Recommend For That Anyway! I Highly Recommend Recommend These Chains.

The F.A.Q. for Glacier Chains 99 Rubber Adjuster Light Truck Tire Chains (Auto Accessory)

I Bought These To Use With My Light Truck V-bar Twist Link Tire Chains. I Was Struggling To Get Them To Fit Until I Realized That The Rubber Needed To Slide On The Hooks A Little Easier. A Quick Spray Of Silicone Lube On The Rubber And They Started Working Like Magic. If Your Tire Chains Have Cam-locks You Should Leave Them Unlocked Before Installing These And Then Lock Them After You Install The Tighteners. You Will Have A Very Difficult Time If You Do Not Lube The Rubber Before Installing Them (silicone Spray)
