Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus (Auto Accessory) 2309

Review for fluid evacuator

Price was $103.64. I read the instructions multiple times to make sure i understood how it works. In my opinion as a technical writer by trade, these instructions could be improved greatly. It is a simple machine, and i had no issues with it extracting the oil, or dispensing it to my waste container. I was in no hurry, so overall it probably took 45 minutes to an hour to change the oil. I did not find the procedure to be messy as some reviewers have stated. After completing the oil change on my mb cla250, i allowed the hoses to drain into my waste oil container until they were empty. The hoses now hang on the wall ready for the next service on our other vehicles. I highly recommend this unit, and i will update if i have any issues in the future.

Introduction

Oil changes are so much easier now. Dealerships usually change oil this way, including the euro car dealers. Yes, you probably don't get as much of the metal shavings out this way vs. A drain plug, but if it makes you change your oil more often, you'll probably be ahead. That being said, i'd probably still recommend using the drain plug every few oil changes, even though if you always got serviced at a dealer, they never would. This pump is great - pump out of engine through the filler hole, fill engine with new oil, pump out of evacuator into empty oil container, recycle. Yes, i missed a few steps so don't take this as a literal guide. The cheaper version of the mityvac does not pump out, so decide what that's worth to you. I know it would be a lot messier if i had to pour out of the top of this thing instead of just pumping out. This supposedly works for bleeding other fluids as well, but i haven't used it that way. I easily recovered the cost of this product by doing a single oil change myself, buying the oil and filter on online store, as opposed to going to the dealership. Yes, they charge that much to do it. Besides, i prefer to do it myself because i know i use more care when working on my own car then anyone else would. Mityvac 7201 fluid evacuator plus Review (7201)

I've owned both this version and the slightly less expensive 7400. They both suck oil quite well. However, not only does the 7201 also pump liquids out of its tank, it also has a few less obvious advantages. 1) the 7201 is much sturdier. I've accidentally tipped the 7400 when it had oil in it. That wasn't cool. It was like a mini exon valdez in my garage. The extra surface area of the 7201's base prevents this from ever happening. 2) even it if were to tip, the 7201 has a tightly-sealed expansion clamp stopper kind of thing that would completely prevent anything from spilling. The stopper on the 7400 doesn't expand when it's in the spout, so it comes off relatively more easily. . So, there's those two distinct advantages over the 7400, plus you get the added ability to change the flow of the liquid and pump it out of the canister. I haven't really needed that ability yet, but it's nice to know it's an option! for something like $10 - $15 extra, it seems like a deal of an upgrade to me. . It's also worthwhile to note that you actually connect the suction hose to the dipstick hose with the rubber connect that's provided. This wasn't immediately obvious to me, although it may be to others! -G. Medina

Excellent oil evacuator for what it's worth! received the mityvac 7201 fluid evacuator plus on july 2 and start to use it on july 4 to do the oil change on my 1998 clk 320 mb. After reading the manual carefully and watching some youtube videos on how it supposed to work, i then started to use it. It turns out very simple and easy to operate. . Here's what i did. 1) per instructions to tighten all of the screws on the lid. 2) attach the hoses to the evacuator and insert the smallest hose in to the dipstick until it touches the bottom of the oil pan. 3) press the button downward on the evacuator to suck the oil out. 4) loosen the oil filter housing. 5) open the oil cap. 6) pump ten times to suck the oil out. 7) pump several times again when needed. Note: make sure engine oil is warm before starting. 8) press button on the evacuator to "dispense" when oil is completely suck out of the engine. 9) pump about ten times for the oil to dispense in to a container for disposing. Note: o'reilly auto car parts store will take the used oil and filter for free (up to 5 gallon per day per person). You will need to fill out a form before they take your oil and oil filter for recycling. . To clean the container. 1) i waited a day later to clean the oil from the evacuator so that the oil settle down to the bottom of the container. 2) using dawn dishwasher liquid soap, pour 1 or 2 ounces (per gallon of water) of the dishwasher soap in to a clean bucket and add hot water. 3) using the evacuator, sucks in the hot watery-soap. Do this will clean the tube also. 4) fill up the evacuator's container with more hot water and soap as needed. 5) let it sit for at least 5 minutes. 6) dispense the liquid. 7) repeat the process as needed. 8) rinse the container with cold water to remove the soap water. I know there are many other different methods to clean the evacuator but i've found this way works best for what i have available within my household without spending extra money to buy the degreaser solvent. Hope this will help someone.

Mobil 1 120760 Synthetic Motor Oil 0W-40, 5 Quart

I own porsche's and mb's. Both recommend and use this product. Knowing the quality of porsche and mb i respect their recommendation. If you've ever owned high end german cars and have used oem products like brake pads vs. Non oem you'll know what i mean. Use their oem parts and you will never go wrong.

Mobil 1 0w-40 is an advanced full synthetic motor oil designed to help provide exceptional cleaning power, wear protection and overall performance. Mobil 1 0w-40 keeps the engine running like new in all driving conditions. Mobil 1 0w-40 (european car formula in north america) synthetic oil is engineered for the latest gasoline and diesel (without diesel particulate filters or dpfs) engine technology delivering excellent all-round performance. Mobil 1 120760 Synthetic Motor Oil 0w-40, 5 Quart (Auto Accessory) FAQ.

This is better than rotella t6 for my 2009 subaru wrx. I had a blackstone oil analysis performed after 3600+ miles and they said the wear metals all looked great compared to the averages. I have 146k miles on my wrx and have used rotella t6 5w40, but will be using mobil1 exclusively now. Be careful not to confuse this with the mobil1 0w30 advanced fuel economy. They are not the same and do not perform the same. Only use the euro approved mobil1 0w40 for your wrx. -Notice from B. Peggy, Tameside

This oil is the best favor i've ever done for my vehicle. If you go to mobil 1's website and look up the specifics on it, it has the highest sheer rating of any motor oil. The 0w-40 european formula is a 100% synthetic base stock oil too. This is the defining feature of top grade synthetic oils. . My engine just rolled over 100, 000 miles and still uses zero oil between changes. I also use the m1 synthetic media high efficiency oil filter. Standard paper filters filter oil to 94. 5% clean in four passes. A m1 high efficiency filter filters to 99. 7% in a single pass. . The main benefits of this oil are:. . Instant lubrication at start up. A quieter & smoother running engine. Excellent fuel economy. 5, 000 mile change intervals. Assurance of quality. . My engine calls for 5w-30 but operates perfectly on the 0w-40, for over eight years now. I know someone reviewed this oil saying it's not certified for bmw's requirements. Bmw has a long term agreement with castrol and therefore pushes their oil. . However, mobil 1 0w-40 is the standard fill for: mercedes-benz, porsche, audi, lamborghini, aston martin, ferrari among many others. It's a superior product that you will notice the benefits of immediately.

- K. AnonymousI did not know mobil 1 has a new formulation as of early 2016 for the 0w40. It is called "0w40 mobil 1 'fs' european car formula" and is labeled "fs" discretely to the right center on container front. . Per the website, . , as pointed out by member "party", the new formulation has the highest wear protection ranking ( 3) of any oil except 2 with additives added! the original "0w40 mobil 1, european formula" ranked 100 out of 190 oils tested for wear protection!

Motivx Tools 74mm Oil Filter Wrench Mercedes Benz, VW, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mazda, More Socket Fits 74mm x 14 Flute Housing Caps

I Use This Filter Wrench Daily As An Audi And Porsche Technician. This Wrench I Feel Is More Robust Than The Hazet Wrenches And The Lower Profile Makes Access Easier For Many Spots Such As For A 993 911. This Is A Great Tool That I Stumbled On By Accident Though From This Review I Hope Others Can Make An Informed Choice And Not Be Afraid To Buy It. Other Techs Have Commented On This Wrench At Work And Have Asked Where To Get One. I Can Only Assume That Their Other Oil Wrenches Are Just As Good. Don't Hesitate To Buy A Motivx Wrench If You Need One.

The best oil filter wrench for your mercedes, porsche, vw, audi, and more. This 74mm oil filter wrench offers the best fit, the best finish, and the best overall quality and will last the life of your vehicle. Why our oil filter wrench is better -we only use high quality 6061 t5 aluminum to construct our wrenches as opposed to lower cost, lower quality materials. -our cast aluminum design doesn't flex like stamped steel reducing the chance of oil filter cap damage. -the oil filter wrench can be used with either a 3/8" drive ratchet, 27mm or 1-1/16" socket -these 74mm oil filter wrenches are finished with a matte chrome finish which isn't just for looks. It helps protect the aluminum from corrosion and makes clean-up after your oil change a breeze. Application information this mx2323 oil filter wrench is specifically designed and tested to fit many mercedes, porsche, vw, audi, and some ford, mercury, and mazda vehicles with a 74mm 14 flute oil filter cap. 74mm oil filter caps have a smooth top such as the ones shown in the photos. If your oil filter cap has a bolt through the center or a large nut on top this wrench is not compatible with your vehicle. Also fits ford fl-2069-st (2015 - 2017 ford gt350), fl-910 and toyota 90915-yzzg2 oil filters. Enter your vehicle information into the form near the top of the page to confirm compatibility with your specific year, make, and model.

Works Exceptionally Well. Wrench Is "notched" At Flute Ends And "domed" On The Inside (making For Easier Cartridge Release). Made From Cast-metal (rather Than Stamped Steel). Firmly Grasps Filter/encasement (does Not Flex Like Stamped Steel Ones). It's More Durable/rugged. Noticeably Easier To Use. This One's A Winner! -Notice from W. Florence, Reading

- Y. BentonOutstanding!!! Perfect Fit For The Mobil 1 M1-104 Oil Filter. Solid Well Made And I Like That I Can Use Either A 3/8" Ratchet With The Center Hole Or Pliers Or A 27mm Wrench/socket On The Outside "nut".

This Is A Pretty Top-notch Tool. I Bought A Similar One That Cost A Little Less But It Is Missing The Undercuts To Help It Stay Retained On The 3/8" Wrench. This One Has The Undercuts Inside The Square Cutout And Will Lock On To Your Wrench Or Extension So That When You Pull Back You Won't Leave This Socket Hanging On The Oil Filter.

(3) Question: i have a 2010 gmc adacia and the smaller dipstick tubes get stuck about 3 inches short of reaching the oil. any suggestions?

Answer:

This pump makes changing oil a lot easier - no need to fumble with an oil pan bolt (which you'll usually end up dropping into the pan of oil. Good luck finding it). It seems well built and i haven't had any issues with it leaking - supposedly, there have been some minor design changes over the years so that the newer ones don't have some of the issues that others here have mentioned. . I found that i ended up having to use the smallest diameter plastic dipstick tube to fit the dipstick of my 2007 and 2011 mazda 3s, but it did fit and seemed to suck the oil out reasonably fast when used properly. Pro tip: make sure that you insert the tube all the way until you hit the oil pan, and then pull the tube back out a tiny bit so there's some space between the tip of the tube and the bottom of the pan.

Make sure the plug is locked down before using. For the longest time, after repeated pumping, i wasn't getting any oil sucked into the canister. I removed the top to make sure there was a sealing ring (there was). I reassembled, and still was having difficulty sucking oil. After another 5 minutes it dawned on me. Check the plug. Bingo! that did the trick. . The other trick. When sucking oil from your car, it's good to run the car for a little bit to warm up the oil. When i first put the tube into the dipstick tube, it was a little difficult to "feel" where the bottom of the oil pan was. When extracting oil at first, i was getting a slow flow of oil. I eventually started "futzing" with the tube, and finally pulled it out far enough such that it must of un-kinked because all of a sudden. "whoosh" there came the oil. . Last tip - buy your oil by the 5qt container - for one, it's far cheaper (especially if you go the synthetic route) than individual quart bottles. My vehicle takes nearly 5 qts, and the bottle makes a perfect storage container for the old oil. Just flip the switch on the mitty vac, start pumping, and "easy peasy", no mess disposal of oil in a handy container. . Aside from user error, the product is fantastic, well built, and the ability to both extract and pump contents out is well worth the twenty dollars you would pay for the lower model mittyvacs. The fact that the pump components is outside the canister is another bonus (added longevity).

Designer and manufacturer of this system has won my respect completely. I watched few youtube videos and decided to give it a try. I was nervous never did any thing with transmission fluids in my life but i own multi vehicles and quote to drain refill transmission was very expensive. The day i received it i tried immediately on two cars in two different conditions. First one 2004 lexus es330, i had driven this car already for about 30 minutes and as soon as i reached home, turned car off and started extraction. In less then even 5 minutes nearly 3. 5l atf was extracted. Wow super super fast extraction and in next few minutes i refilled equivalent amount, shifted car through all gears while in garage parking and then drove it. Gears were shifting perfect and then i started on next car 2000 lexus gs300 that was cold standing in garage and not used that day. I turned car on for about 5 minutes and then assumed it is enough hot. Turned car off and started extraction, about 2l atf came out. I replaced equivalent and all good. My conclusion is that it is better to use car about 30 minutes on road and then start extracting atf using this system. I am highly impressed. Very well built and works like a dream.

I opted to buy this unit to replace my pella 6000, which i love so much for quick and easy oil changes. Recently i bought a new car which holds around 10 liters of oil, and i needed an upgrade. Having a bad back, this unit stands taller than the constant pump pella, and allows me to enjoy my other work around the garage while the oil is pulled through the dipstick. The mityvac does not leak any at all, and there's no cleanup needed with shop towels. I decided that the electric unit's effectiveness, while easier in operation- requires a air compressor to work in unison. That's really way too much equipment just for an oil change. Stick the fluid drain down the dipstick line to the deepest cavern of your engine possible, and then start the priming and create the vacuum, and the mityvac does the work for you. This unit is a must have in any diy garage, but also don't forget the car ramps so that you can get under your car and take out the oil filter. Don't buy cheap autozone ones, because my car collapsed on one a few years ago when it cracked under the pressure. Enjoy many cheap oil changes from now on without touching the drain bolt.

Z. Rhonda, West Virginia says

Bought one of these years ago, primarily for brake fluid flushes, and it worked well, until some of the seals eventually started leaking and wouldn't hold a tight vacuum anymore, due to sitting unused in a detached, unheated garage year round for several years. Bought this one to use mainly for oil changes, since three of our cars have oil filters that can be accessed from up top, without having to jack up the car or get underneath it to change the oil, using the mityvac. The oil takes a little while to full drain though the dipstick tube, since the hole/hose is so small, but it is worth the extra few minutes to be able to everything from the top. Will be buying the brake kit for it to bleed/flush brakes again too.

After the oil change place broke the filter housing in my grand cherokee, i decided to go back to doing my oil changes myself. Luckily the filter housing is on top of the engine and easily accessed. The product worked flawlessly out of the box. Warm up the oil, shut the car off. Break the vacuum by removing the oil fill cap and the oil filter cap. Insert the small tube into the big tube. Insert the big tube into the pump. Insert the free end of the small tube into the oil fill tube until you feel the bottom. Switch to evacuate and pump 10x. Takes about 10 minutes to remove 5 quarts. The unit was stable even when full, on an inclined driveway. Diy oil changes from the bottom of the car has always been messy. This product works well and makes a messy job easy and clean. Plus, i don't have to crawl under the car.

Best investment in a long time for my tools collection. Have only used it twice now - but it's a lifesaver 1st use was to remove the power steering fluid from my car when i did a fluid and filter change (yes, it has a filter in the power steering fluid reservoir). 2nd use was this weekend, to drain the transmission fluid out of my silverado. Took 10 minutes and sucked the sump dry. Easy disposal - and i just suck a degreaser through the tubes, into the reservoir, shake it around, and pump it back out, then rinse with water to clean it up. Amazing tool. Works great and no gasket issues as others have, on occasion, reported. Love this thing!

I got the mightyvac to do my own winter oil changes. I live in a cold and slushy winter climate and hate doing winter oil changes combine that with the fact that the "complimentary" oil changes at the stealership are every 10, 000miles (rediculous! ) . Well i wanted to change oil between oil changes at the dealer. She does what she says, sucks out the oil. It is well made and so far no loss or bleed out of suction on mine. It does pull out the oil a bit slower that i thought but hey we live in a fast paced world. Don't pump it like 100 times in a row like a fool. I get almost every drop of oil out from my two newer toyotas. Warning: in an effort to get faster oil evacuation i used the bit larger of the tubes in the dip stick. Big mistake. It went down the dipstick tube fine and even sucked oil but must have gotten caught on a baffle internally. I thought i was in a heap o trouble. Well, after a prayer and twisting the tube, it came out , whew! the tube do drip oil after use so be sure to hang the to drip 'dry'.

I do all the maintenance and most repairs on my cars. I always put off doing the oil change on my wife's car because the miserably located oil filter and the hassle of making a mess doing it. A friend recommended this so i finally broke down and bought it. Why in the world did i wait so long? i drained the oil without a speck of dirt on my hands. After the oil was out, i pulled the filter off (in a plastic bag) and little to no oil came out with it. I never had to touch the oil pan bolt under the car. Once i put the filter back on i refilled thence with fresh oil and it was done. Even better, i flipped a switch and pumped the used oil into some empty 5l bottles i had and dropped them off at the local auto parts store for recycling. Again zero mess. Fantastic purchase and highly recommended for your oil changes.

I love my mityvac. If you change you do oil changes yourself, this product pays for itself after a few uses. I've used this thing on everything from my motorcycle, lawnmower, transmission, and domestic/european/japanese cars. . Worth noting:. Some people complain of the suction being inadequate. The trick to this is for starters you want the oil to be warm. This holds true even if you're changing the oil via the conventional drain plug method. If you change your oil after it's been warm and driven, it gets whatever deposits and allows the oil to come out easily. Notice i said "warm" and not hot! this is both conventional drain plug and extractor method. Another reason why some find that it doesn't pull all the oil out or that it takes a long time, has to do with how far they're pushing in the tube. A trick that i use is measure the tube along the dipstick, you should only push in this amount of tubing. +/- 1". Another trick is to leave the engine oil cap on, as this will allow for greater suction in the pan. On some cars, especially cartridge filters, the motor creates a vacuum where it holds some of the oil in the filter. Make sure you loosen the filter canister in this case, enough to allow that oil to go back into the pan, you'd do this too with the drain plug method or else you will be there for a while waiting for it to drain completely. . In summary:. . 1. Bring car to operating temps then shut it off. 2. Slightly loosen the cartridge filter canister to allow oil to go into pan (if your car has this). 3. Leave oil filler cap on! . 4. Insert the same amount of tubing as the dipstick length, while its extracting you can adjust +/- 1" if needed. For most cars you use the thin tubing and for trucks the wider tube. 5. Make sure you only pump it the max amount, 10 pumps. Any more you risk bursting the canister and damaging the pump itself. . It's really that easy. . For instance on my 2014 tdi the conventional method would take about 60 minutes. I'd have to jack the car up, put it on stands. Then after doing that, i would need to remove all the torx screws that hold the plastic skid plate to the car. And as like a lot of new cars, you have to replace the drain plug with a new one every time you change the oil. . V. S. The steps that i listed above and i am done in 20 at the most. That includes clean up and putting in new oil. . That said, i advise that you still go under your car periodically. Doing oil changes the conventional way puts you underneath where you can spot things that are going on. I. E leaks broken parts etc. So even though with this you don't have to, yo u still should. . I hope this helps!

This thing is amazing! having never used one i didn't know what to expect i was pleasantly surprised on how well it works. . I will address a few issues some have noted in other reviews. This is a tall extractor but i have found it to be very stable when standing on its own. The overall height of the extractor makes using the pump very easy. . I have also found there is plenty of hose included giving you plenty of reach. Included in this kit are three different diameter tubes used to insert in to different diameter openings. One of the three tubes is the main tube that connects to the pump itself but this can be used as a suction line by itself or you can add one of the two smaller diameter tubes to extend your reach. . One thing i would change are the liter markings on the side of the plastic container, they are very hard to see and should be in a contrasting color making them easier to read. . Overall this was well worth the money for me, it will save me around 200 a year in winterizeing my watercraft.

Great, easy to use! . I love it. Tried for the 1st time, read the manual instructions. Left car running for 5-7 minutes. Turned car off. Put mityvac 7201 into evacuate mode by pressing on the button. Closed the steel valve on the top. Put the thin tube into the dip stick. Then pressed the pump 10 times and lo and behold oil started pouring into the canister (about 6 quarts). After 7 minutes had to press the pump for another 7-8 times and all oil was out. Oil felt very warm to the palm of the hand when touching the thin pipe. Once done, put mityvac 7201 into dispense mode by pressing the button, pumping for another 10 times and collected the bad oil into a container for recycling! . Then opened the steel valve on the top to release the pressure. Buy it, you won't regret it! . Got 2 1-gal freezer bags to store the thin pipe to avoid oil mess. Then put in new oil in my car and a new oil filter. I was done in 20 minutes. A very well manufactured product with good quality! . Pleasure to use! .

I've had this sitting in my garage for a few months, waiting for that opportune time to do my first oil change on my 2016 golf r. It really couldn't have been simpler. Please note, this is the first time i have ever changed oil on any car! . . To extract oil:. . 1. ) pop hood, after getting oil temperature up to about 130f. 2. ) remove oil dipstick. 3. ) connect fat hose to mityvac 7201, and then the thin hose to that fat hose - and then the other end of that thin hose into the dipstick hole and down to the bottom (wait for it to bottom out). 4. ) make sure the mityvac is set to "evacuate" on the little push up/down button. 5. ) pump about 10 times. 6. ) go get a cup of coffee! . 7. ) come back in about 15 minutes or so. . Done! this really couldn't have been simpler. You'll know when it's done extracting when it gurgles air, or you can see the level is not rising on the mityvac container. . After pouring my new oil into the car from the new-oil 1-quart containers, i then proceeded to dispense the old oil into those very same containers to take them to a garage for disposal. This is also easy:. . To dispense old oil:. . 1. ) switch the button on the mityvac to "dispense. ". 2. ) put the end of the hose into one of your used oil containers. 3. ) pump the mityvac around 10 times. 4. ) if you're using smaller oil containers (i used 1 quart containers), you'll need to stop the flow to switch container, of course. You do this by pulling on the little vacuum release black "thing" on the top of the lid. You'll hear the air release as you keep holding that black thing up, which stops the flow! if the hose is still dripping a little, you can always switch the mityvac to "evacuate" and pump a few times to ensure no leakage out the hose as you switch container. ). . For the golf r, the filter is also on top of the engine, right next to the dipstick. You just need a new filter and o-ring (comes with the oem filter) and a 32mm 6-point socket wrench to remove. Will just take you just a couple of minutes for this part! . . Overall, this has been the perfect addition to my garage, and again - bear in mind this is my first ever oil change. Yay! . . 5 stars out of 5. A great product.

I really enjoy the mityvac 7201 fluid evacuator plus. I can't say that it makes changing the oil much quicker than using the drain plug or even that much neater but it certainly does make it easier. . If you have a car with the oil filter located where you can access it without getting under the car, i would recommend the evacuator without hesitation. If you have to get under the car or truck to change the filter you might as well just drain the oil with the plug. . I bought the evacuator about a year ago specifically for use on my 2007 mercedes e320 diesel which has the drain plug in a very awkward location. Since then i've used it about a dozen times on both the diesel and my 2002 e46 bmw 330i. I have never had a problem with the performance and my only complaint is that it does not have enough capacity for the mercedes. This car holds 9 quarts of oil and i have to stop halfway through the evacuation and empty the reservoir. Once the evacuator has been filled, the film of dark oil clinging to the walls prevents seeing the oil level under any lighting conditions. So, i always evacuate about 3 quarts, empty the evacuator, and then evacuate the remainder. This is not a problem with the bmw since the evacuator can empty this car in one step. . Before i purchased the evacuator i read some reviews that warned that their evacuator did not come with a gasket between the lid and the side walls. I took mine apart on arrival and it did not have a gasket either. However, the plastic parts fit tightly together and make an air tight seal. It is my theory that some of the people that could not get their evacuators to empty their crankcases have a problem with the length of the suction tube inside the evacuator. For the evacuator to work in pump mode, versus vacuum mode, there is a tube that extends to the bottom of the evacuator, much like drinking a milkshake through a straw, that allows you to pump out the evacuator contents. In my evacuator the tube has very little clearance with the bottom of the unit. I believe in some units the internal tube may actually touch the bottom of the evacuator and prevent or limit the vacuum pulled in the tank from drawing the oil through the suction tube. If you should order an evacuator and then find that it does not work (i suggest testing it in the sink first using water) you should try taking it apart and checking the internal tube length. There of course are many other reasons the units may not work but i thought this tip was worth passing along. . Many other reviewers have commented on this as well but i also wanted mention that the unit works much better when the oil is warm. However, i changed my oil once on a 40 day when the oil was at ambient conditions and with a little patience i was able to suck every last drop out. So, it can be done but i would not recommend it. . I also wanted to give a couple of tips on tubing. In my cars, the largest tube which will go down the dipsticks is ¼". I buy it in bulk at my local ace hardware for $0. 12 a foot. I only use the ¼" tube one time, discarding it after each use in order to prevent the introduction of dirt into the engine internals and also to avoid the mess of storing an oily piece of tubing. I feed the ¼" tube from the spool it is supplied on into the dipstick until it touches the bottom of the oil pan. I then cut the tubing off the roll, leaving about 6" of tube sticking out of the dipstick tube. I have shortened the length of the factory large diameter tube that is directly connected to the evacuator so that it reaches just from the evacuator when it is sitting within 1' of the fender to the dipstick. The 2 different size pieces of tube are then connected with the included rubber adapter. This gives me the shortest possible run of tubing with the largest diameter tubing possible for each section of the run. I have had very good success with this setup. . I do not clean my evacuator after each use but i also don't leave oil in. I immediately switch it into pump mode and pump the oil, using only the large diameter tube, into a container to transport the oil for recycling. Once the evacuator is emptied i will stretch out the large diameter tube to a rag on the ground and allow the oil in the tube to gravity flow out over night. The tube can then be wrapped around the evacuator and it will snap into clips on the side of the unit. I don't like to use the drain plug on the top of the evacuator to empty it. The plug is difficult to get out even when lubed with oil and is it is difficult to pour the oil into other containers. . The evacuator should allow you to change the oil with the minimum of mess possible. However no matter how careful i am, i always seem to drip or spray 1 or 2 drops of oil onto myself or the floor. This can be an improvement over the drain plug and pan method though. For example on my explorer you must carefully control the flow from the drain plug or it comes out with such force that it splashes or sprays the under car components. With the evacuator you also don't have to worry about sloshing oil out of an open pan, oil splashing on the top of one of the closed-top funnel-type pans, or spilling when you transfer oil from a pan into another container. . For those car enthusiasts who have a true passion for their cars and this type work, i would recommend having your oil tested periodically by a lab. I recommend blackstone-labs. Their testing service is very affordable and they can help you determine the true required interval between oil changes for your driving habits and vehicle. . For hard to find oils like the mobil 1 type m esp used in all new diesel mercedes, i would recommend mail ordering your oil from avlube. This oil is available through the dealership and at pep boys but i have found it to be less expensive and more convenient to mail order the oil in bulk. . Properly set up, i have found the evacuator to be an indispensible tool for service on my german cars.
