2003 toyota tacoma 2. 7l - 4x4 - 5spd manual. . Box was well packaged and sealed in a plastic bag (think mine was double layer plastic). . By far the best fluid to run in the manual transmission and transfer case. Seriously avoid supertech (walmarts fluid - especially in the differentials). The first time i put this in, i did a flush with walmarts cheap sythentic fluid (75w-90 supertech) for 200miles just to make sure all the metal was out. I would not recommend more than 500 to 2, 000 miles on supertech. . Drain bolts are 24mm. I used a tekton 2ft breaker bar and a shallow 24mm socket. Also bought the u-joints for ratchets just in case. . Best fluid (lowest temps & smooth) i've found for the differential is amsoil severe gear 75-110 (yes i know the manual calls for 75w-90). 75w-140 has very weird properties though. So bigger numbers are not always better. . Used valvoline dextron vi for power steering, which is meh after 10k miles. Will change to amsoil. . Mobile1 seems best in the engine from a cost and wear perspective. I usually get pennzoil full synthetic because mobile1 is sold out. Pennzoil is nearly as good but degrades much faster from what i've seen. . Every truck varries. My rear differentials were probably neglected from the previous owner or someone possibly did not try too hard to get the perfect backlash / etc from the factory. These are my recommended milage drain marks:. 15, 000-25, 000 rear diff. 30, 000 front diff (will likely look good for you). 25, 000 transmission. 40, 000-60, 000 transfer case (unless this takes you years as in acid is more of a factor than viscosity). 30, 0000 for power steering. 7, 000 for engine. Brake fluid 2 years if you dare :p. . Save yourself $150-$400, help your car, and buy the good fluid and do the transmission, transfer case, and rear differential yourself. It's easier than an oil change. No filter required. Fill ports offer idiot proof over/under filling assuming you're on level ground. I do it in the walmart parking lot with a 7qt oil container. Some brake cleaner. Scotts shop towels. Gloves (yes plz). Some empty distilled water containers. And a funnel. Might need a partner to hold the empty containers up while you pour the used oil. . The front differential requires 10mm and 12mm hex to ratchet attatchments and is much more tricky to access. Worth it though. :)

Not only is it great for maintaining the brass syncros in a manual transmission, my 1999 jeep chrerokee now shifts smoother in temperatures from 90f to -18f. We have had a wide range of temps in nw pa and this has allowed for fewer missed shifts and smoother shifts for much longer than pennzoil synthetic or mobil synthetic 75w-90. Vastly superior performance in manual transmission applications. Even if the manufacturer says gl-5 is good to run in manual transmission it is not. Use only gl-4 mt-90."

Review from K. Laura, Southwark I Use This Product In My 92 Nissan Sentra Se. I Have Been Pleased With It. I Wanted To Make Sure That I Put Gl-4 In My Tranny Because My Nissan Manual Says That A Gl-5 Will Destroy My Transmission. I Am Glad I Got This Product. I Almost Went With Another Product That Was Super Over Priced And Claimed To Be Compatible For Both Gl-4 And Gl-5. I Googled That Product And Read How A Lot Of People Destroyed Their Transmissions With That Product That Comes In A Funky Color (bottle Packaging). Go With Redline And Buy It From Online Store To Save Yourself Aggravation. In The Summer When I Have More Time I Am Going To Change Out The Trannie Fluid On My 88 Toyota Truck And Put In This Same Product. My Shifts Have Been Smooth And After A Long Drive I Pop The Hood Reach Down And Touch The Trannie And Feel The Metal. Of Course It Is Hot But I Can Keep My Hand On It. That Tells Me That It Is Lubricating And That Means Fighting Friction And Heat. Plus Some Of The Heat If Not Most Comes From The Engine (heat Transfer From Engine) Anyway. Red Line Is Good Stuff. Plus It Is Fully Synthetic So You Are Getting Consistent Protection And Performance.

Red line 50304 transmission transaxle (Red Line Oil) Review

Review from O. Veronica, Bradford
This Is One Awesome Gl-4 Fluid. It Does Everything It Is Supposed To And More Just As Redline Promised. It Smoothed Out My Transmission That I Thought Was Potentially Damaged. I Was Skeptical At First But No More. It Was Also Cheaper Than Very Expensive (and Wrong For My Car) Fluids At All The Local Stores That They Tried To Sell Me. Some Background Info Is In Order If You Are Interested. Many Think All Gear Lube Is The Same As Long As You Pick The Right Weight. Even Many Mechanics Pay No Attention To Anything Other Than Weight. Well Wrong Although It Used To Be True. Unlike Motor Oil Gear Lube Is Indeed Made Different For Different Applications Even For The Same Weights As Newer Cars Requirements Are So Different From Older Cars. Mistake One: I Had A Pro Shop Change The Gear Lube In A Manual Tranny Pushing Close To 200k. I Figured It Was Time :) If You Want It Done Right Do It Yourself But I Was Lazy That Day. I Specifically Requested Them To Make Sure The Right Synthetic Fluid Went In. They Of Course Put In The Right Weight: High Priced Major Brand Synthetic 75w90 But They Never Bothered To Check Anything Else Since They Just Have The Autostore Cross-reference And Deliver The Fluid. The Stores Are More Clueless Than Anything Else. The Chain Stores Do Not Even Stock Gl-4 Fluid Anymore. There Was One High Priced Brand That Claimed To Be Both Gl-4 And Gl-5. Well Anything That Claims To Be One Size Fits All Usually Does Not Fit Anything Properly So I Would Stay Away From That. Mistake Two: Not Checking If All Lube Was Backward Compatible. If You Want To Be Sure Check Everything Yourself. After All I Had Professionals Do It For Me Right They Don't Care Because It Is Not Their Car. Well Gl-5 Is Not Backward Compatible And Can Actually Damage Some Tender Parts In Transmissions Designed For Gl-4 Due To Some Harsh Additives. So After The Shop Put In Gl-5 After A Week Or Two Tranny Started Lurching In 5th Gear. Darn. Did Some Research But Could Not Be Sure If It Was The Fluid Or Just Coincidence. After All It Is A Lot Of Miles On The Tranny. But All Indications Were Gl-5 Was Bad For My Gl-4 Designed Transmission. So All My Hopes Rested On This Redline Fluid. It Did Not Let Me Down! Got Some Redline Mt-90 Gl-4 75w90 Fluid And Changed It Myself. Online Store Has The Best Price. No One Locally Even Stocked Pure Gl-4. At First The Lurching Was Still There. Well It Was Worth A Try I Thought. But Then It Got Smoother Or So It Seemed. Wishful Thinking I Thought. Then It Was Definitely Smoother No Mistake. Could It Be Now About Two Weeks After For The Very First Day The Lurching In 5th Gear Is Completely Gone And The Tranny Is As Smooth As It Was Before. Even Smoother. I Would Occasionally Grind When Shifting Quickly But Now I Can Shift As Fast I Am Capable Of And I Have Yet To Make It Grind. So Expensive Lessons Learned. One Do It Yourself If You Can. Check What Someone Else Puts In Your Car Before You Let Them Put It There. Definition Of A "professional" Is That They Are Paid To Do It Not Necessarily That They Do It Well. Just Because They Get Paid To Do It Does Not Mean They Know What They Are Doing Or Know Better Than You. Two Even If You Do Not Do It Yourself At Least Make Sure Your Mechanic Knows What To Put In. They Will Not Take Time To Research And Could Not Care Less If You Do Not Tell Them Beforehand. Three Do Not Trust Clueless Autostores To Cross-reference Fluids. They Will Get It Wrong Most Of The Time. Go To Factory Service Manuals Or Other Reliable Sources For That Information. Four If Your Transmission Calls For Gl-4 Do Not Chance It With Gl-5! Brass Synchronizers Cannot Take It As Gl-5 Additives Can Eat Them. You May Need A New Tranny Or Major Repairs Before You Know It.

Image of Red-line-50304-transmission-transaxle-(red-line-oil)"2005 Scion Xb (xbox) **update** Been Running This Stuff For 3 Days And So Far I Couldnt Be Happier My Scion Was Fun To Drive Before But Now I Love It I Dont Know What This Stuff Is Made Of But It Has Unleashed My Transmission Shifting Is A Breeze And The Friggin Power I Have Now Gettin The Rpms Up Is Amazing. If You Got A Scion 5 Speed U Gota Try This Stuff."

Definitely Works. It Has Definitely Improved The Shift Feel And Smoothness Of The Manual Transmission Of My 07 Toyota Yaris. Make Sure You Add Enough. I Had To Double Check The Oil Level On My Transmission The 2nd Month After The Gear Oil Change Because The Shift Feel Was Not As Expected And Sure Enough The Transmission Was A Bit Lower Than Specs Than What I Though It Was When I Changed The Oil. When I First Added The Oil During The Oil Change I Waited For The Oil That Was Dripping Out Of The Fill Hole To Be Leveled Out Until Only A Drop Every Second Came Out But Had To Add More After The Second Month And This Did Smooth Out The Shift Feel Overall.

I Had This Fluid In The Manual Transmission Of My 03 Miata. Never Thought Much Of It And I Put 75w-90 Royal Purple In My Tranny Next Time I Changed The Fluid. Pretty Soon My Synchronizers Started Making Noise Every Time I Shifted And Sometimes There Was So Much Resistance On Downshifting That I Kept Missing Gears Completely. I Switched Back To Mt-90. Now The Transmission Is Transparent Again. It Goes In And Out Of Gear Like Butter And Doesn't Call Any Attention To Itself Just Snick - Snick The Way I Like It. Believe The Hype. Btw - For All You Nb Miata Guys Out There Most People Say The 6 Speed Takes Only 2 Quarts. The Shifter Fluid And Transmission Fluid Are One And The Same In Our Car So You Need To Fill Your Transmission Through The Shifter Turret Under The Console. If You Fill It Through The Fill Bolt On The Side Of The Transmission You'll Leave The Shifter Linkage Bone Dry. Filling It Up Till The Fluid Level Reaches Close To The Top Of The Turret Take Five Quarts Yes Five Quarts.

Review from W. Crawford, Blackpool Used This To Pump "genuine Honda Fluid 08200-9003 Vtm-4 Differential Fluid - 1 Gallon Bottle" Into My Wife's Honda Piolt And It Worked Great For The Job. Like The Two Different Sized Tubes For The Varying Bottle Sizes. If You Are A Honda Or Acura Guy Don't Forget The Sw-05 18mm & Sw-04 20mm Crush Washers To Complete The Job. Oh And For Those Concerned. It Took Exactly 93 Pumps To Fill A Little Over 3 Quarts Into The Differential. Can't Wait To Use It On Other Car Projects In The Future.

Custom Accessories 36671 Pennzoil Fluid Transfer Pump - Gallon (Auto Accessory) Review

Review from O. Colleen, District of Columbia
I Will Say This Pump Does Work. Problem Is It Is Very Slow. Think Of How You Will Use It. I Bought It To Fill A Differential Case On A 95 Toyota Tercel. I Wasn't Sure How Well It Was Pumping Under The Car So I Tested It On The Bench. One Pump Produced A 1/2 A Teaspoon Of Fluid. The Stroke On The Pump Is A Half Of An Inch. So Anyway I Was Under My Car For 45 Minutes Pumping Away To Put 1 And 1/2 Quarts Of Atf Into The Differential Case. Now I Know Why Shops Used Specialized Fittings And Air Power Pumps To Do This. This Will Work If You Only Use On Your Own Cars Every 4 Or 5 Years But If You Plan On Making Money With This Pump Think Of Getting Something Air Powered Instead.

Image of Custom-accessories-36671-pennzoil-fluid-transfer-pump---gallon-(auto-accessory)"I Am A Mobile Mechanic And This Is The Only Way I Am Able To Quickly Fill Rear End Gear Oil Without A Mess On The Side Of The Road. When I Am At The Shop We Have Better Pumps But Not Enough For Every Mechanic To Have One In Their Service Trucks. So I Keep This One On A Gallon Jug Of 140w Just For Emergencies. It Works Very Well. I Have Tried To Use A Funnel And Tube Once It Took About An Hour To Fill One Gallon. I Can Pump A Gallon In About 3 To 5 Minutes With This Pump. For The People Who Wanted Quart Size Access Check This Out: Online Store/custom-accessories-36670-pennzoil-transfer01dkqz9q/ref Pd Rhf Sc S Cp 14"

The Pump Screws Into A Gallon Jug Without A Problem But It Takes Forever To Move The Lube From The Container And Into A Differential. With Each Pump You Are Probably Moving Less Than An Ounce Of Fluid Which Means For A 3 Liter Capacity Differential You Are Pumping Well More Than 100 Pumps. Each Pump Requires A Good Deal Of Effort And When You Are Underneath A Vehicle It Is A Quiet Unpleasant Experience. I Might Look Elsewhere For My Next Project.

B. Linda, Newfoundland and Labrador

Absolute Garbage; Do Not Buy The Pump Broke After One Quart Of Heated Gear Oil. Unfortunately It's A 2 Quart Job And I Ended Up Having To Gravity Feed The Lube Into The Diff With 6 Ft Of Tubing That I Had To Finish The Job. The Pump Is Incredibly Cheap And You Should Not Expect It To Last More Than A Single Use. I Returned Mine To Online Store. Look At The Other Reviews. Does This Seem Like An Isolated Incident Go Find Something With Some Positive Reviews.

Review from J. Harrison, Tennessee Not Much To Say About Red-line Brand Of Oils And Lubes. They Have Some Good Stuff. I Had To Rebuild My Axles And The Only Way The Factory Grease Comes Is With New Boots Etc. I Was Rebuilding Mine As I Had The Bars And Ends Shot Peened To Relieve Stress Etc And Needed Grease To Put Them Back Together. I Bought Two Tubes And Used All But About A 1/4 Of The One Which I Cut The Tube Down And Recapped. I Simply Do Not Trust Some Of The Other Stuff Out There So For The Few Extra Bucks It Just Brought Peace Of Mind.

Red Line 80402 Synthetic Grease (Red Line Oil) Review

Review from D. Rochelle, Ealing
I Own A Race Car And This Grease Gets Used All Over It. I Use It Primarily To Pack Wheel Bearings But It Is Also Handy For Things Like Hoses And Shifter Bushings. It Also Turns From Bright Red To Nasty Brown When It Has Been Overheated Which Is An Excellent Feature That Makes Inspecting Bearings Much Easier. I Highly Recommend This Grease And Always Have A Couple Of Tubes Of It On Hand.

C. Carolyn, Telford and Wrekin

I Received This Product And Noticed It Had Been Partially Used Like Someone Took Two Fingers And Scooped Out Some To Test It And Then Decided They Didn't Want It And Sent It Back As-if It Had Never Been Opened. No Biggy However. I Suspect Someone Discovered It Wasn't Compatible With A Grease They Were Currently Using. The Top Lid Was Carefully Resealed With Clear Tape So The Shipper Probably Didn't Notice It Had Been Used. I Would Be Careful To Not Combine This Grease With Any Other Grease Or Don't Use It In Zerks Where There Is Already Grease Inside The Area But Only In Areas Where One Can Completely Clean Out Things So Only This Grease Is Involved. I Like How This Grease Sticks To Things And Stays Put But Yet Also Works Ok Under Cold Conditions. I Sometimes Work In Temperatures Under -15f And I Thought This Grease Would Be Good To Use In My Power Tools As I Go About Doing Maintenance Work On Them. It Seems To Work Well At Lower Temperatures. I Noticed How It Provides A Cushion For My Impact Driver Which Didn't Exist Before With Automotive Moly Grease As I Move The 1/2 Drive Part Back And Forth But Yet This Impact Driver Works Well Even If This Might Reduce Its Torque Some This Hasn't Been A Problem. No The Only Problem Of Note Is That This Stuff Really Stinks. If You Want To Get Into Trouble With The Little Woman Or The Not-so-little-any-more Woman Of The House Just Try Seeing How This Grease Functions At Higher Temperatures In A Pan On The Stove. This Will Stink Up The Whole House Far More Than The Usual Automotive Grease. It Burns A Little Too Quickly For My Tastes But Maybe This Is Not A Problem As I Raised The Temperature Really High But Then Has To Leave The House With My Hot Pan And So Neglected To Measure The Temperature I Reached Due To Complaints About The Stink I Was Creating. After This Stink-fest I Also Noticed How Much My Tools Were Smelling From Using This Grease Where No Heat Of Note Was Involved. This Bad Smell Is Not Really A Problem In Most Cases But In The Case Of Using Cordless Tools Inside A House I Would Stay Away From Using This Grease For The Gear Case. For Corded Tools Rarely Used Inside Of A House It Should Be Fine. Also Of Course For Wheel Bearings Which Is The Main Use For Which I Purchased This The Stink Of It Will Not Matter And Should Not Be Bothering Anyone But A Dog Sniffing Around My Tires Prior To Doing His Thing -- Or Perhaps Not Given The Stink This Must Produce For A Critter With A Extra Good Nose. I May Do Some Tests With This Grease At Some Point Outside The House And If I Do I Can Add An Update.

The F.A.Q. for Red Line 50305 Mt-90 75w90 Gl-4 Gear Oil - 1 Gallon (Red Line Oil)

Put 10w-30 synthetic in my freshly rebuilt jeep tj ax-15 transmission, noticed it was far too notchy for my liking. Drained that and installed the mt-90 gl-4, instant improvement in the 1st to 2nd gearchange and others. Good product.

Looked all over the place to find a gl-3 for my 94 xj manual transmission. This is one of the only ones that satisfy gl-3 requirements. I took a road trip of 6k miles over christmas break, manual transmission running stronger than ever

Best red line 50305 mt-90 75w90 gl-4 gear oil - 1 gallon (red line oil) in review

When considering weather or not to use gear oil vs atf in your manual transmission, there are several things to think about. Number one on my list of concerns was the viscosity of this gear oil. My truck (a 2007 toyota tacoma 6 speed standard) lives outside and it is normal for temperatures to be well below freezing when i go to start her up in the mornings. I was concerned that i would have to wait ten or fifteen minutes for the fluid to heat up in the tranny. While i do recommend letting your vehicle run for a little while when it is very cold, you will not have a big problem shifting if you do not. After draining my old fluid and adding this, the difference in shifting was very noticeable. Way smoother than before. I'm not sure what type of fluid was in my tranny before, but this is far superior. Highly recommend this gear oil for your manual transmission. If you plan on doing the fluid change yourself, it is important to remember that gear oil expands when it heats up. Do not fill your tranny up all the way. Fill it up until you can crook your pinky through the fill hole (or over-fill hole if you have one) and touch the top of the fluid. This will make the fluid level just right.

I recently bought a 2005 toyota corolla xrs and from the dealer ship lot it shifted a little rough, too rough in my opinion. So after some basic research i found that several online corolla communities recommend this flavor of synthetic transmission fluid. I am not a mechanic by any stretch so i had the fluid flushed and replaced with redline and now my baby shifts crazy smooth. If you love your car, do yourself a favor and pick this stuff up.

Never thought i'd spend $60 for a gallon of oil, but it did smooth out my manual transmission being that it's gl-4. It's getting tougher to find gl-4 tranny fluid, but some transmissions, like mine, 1988 toyota 4x4, require it, or you get notchy shifting using gl-5. This stuff is amazing though. Would definitely buy again.

Seems so far like a great product. I have noticed gear shifting to be easier than before. And was easy to pump into transmission. Be sure to buy one of the pump sprayers for this. (even if does not fit the lid of the container perfectly . Should be no problem getting the gear oil to pump easily into transmission)

Both of my tacoma and miata grind in second gear sometimes. I read online some where tge only cure is mt90 by redline. Guess what? they are absolutely right! no more grinding in both cars! thank you redline. I only wish it was cheaper.

Used in my 1992 jeep cherokee sport. Ax-15 transmission. I didn't notice any improvement in shifting, but the very strange color and amount of metallic shavings in the old gear oil meant i was right in changing it. I have driven about 500 miles since changing and don't have any problems.

Makes my audi s4 very happy! shifts are much firmer, cold weather has no adverse viscosity affects.

I replaced my clutch in my 2009 corolla xrs and needed to refill the transmission fluid. My manual called for gl-4, so the only one i saw at the parts store was royal purple, which said it was compatible with gl-4 and gl-5. It is not! my transmission started missing third gear when it was cold. I drained and refilled with redline and now it is shifting normal again.

I had noise coming from my shifter turret when changing gears and then the occasional gear grind when downshifting. I figured my synchros we're going; however, i did a bit of reading and found out about mt-90 through some forums. It completely silenced my shifts and made them much smoother.
