Review for company super cable tire chain

Price was $96.10. Best cables best trip ever! last year we bought cheap cables at walmart, they kept falling off and scratched our car big time. This year we bought these cables instead and these are the best cables. I noticed that everyone had them in the mountains. There's so much snow at mammoth this season that we had the cables on for 6 days and the cables made our trip a breeze. I didn't have to stress a bit and we drove with our van in 2 feet of deep snow. Our van is fwd and it's not easy to drive in the snow but with these cables, no problem at all. I highly recommend them. It was also easy to put them on and take them off. I used to lose my sleep over this because we have to drive up a steep hill from our condo in the mountains and we kept sliding last year and couldn't make it up. Not this year. The cables made it so easy.

Preamble

These chains are awesome! we took them to king's canyon and sequoia national parks back in march and they worked like a charm on winding mountain roads covered in a few inches of packed snow. . 1) installation: they were so easy to install! all you have to do is sling it around your tire, fasten the quick snaps, and attach the bungee cord. We consistently put on all four (we decided to get a set for the front and a set for the back) in less time than it took most other park visitors to put on one traditional roll on chain. . 2) comfort and safety: just fyi, it feels really strange when accelerating from a dead stop for the first time. It made me get out and check everything to make sure they were properly attached. Do not go much above 25mph or they start to wack against your suspension/wheel well and make an ungodly thumping noise. This is more of a problem in the clear straight stretches of road where you are required to have chains on but have not yet reached the snow. Cruising at speeds 20-25mph in the snow was awesome! it was super smooth with minimal vibrations and no sliding. There were exactly 0 moments in 2 days of driving where i felt like i was losing control. . 3) durability and customer service: after 2 days of use, one of the plastic clips had rubbed halfway through the rubber bungee holding everything together. The other three had no such problem. We immediately contacted customer service and had that set replaced promptly. All we had to do was send in the set with the worn band. Security Chain Company Sz447 Super Z6 Cable Tire Chain For Passenger Cars, Pickups, And Suvs - Set Of 2 Review (sz447)

We really like the sc brand. It aint plastic. Our first set for all 4 wheels for our trailblazer worked great. But we since got a new 2018 chevy traverse and we are due some heavy snow. The better your tires on a awd the bigger the difference and we hope we don't need to put on the cables. Our old set was still going strong since 2011. Make sure after driving and you take them off to bring them inside and rinse them off and lube them up with a minimum of silicone spray. Then put them back in the bag for next time. And back in the car. We have used tire chains on different cars and trucks for years. I like the cables better at this time. Unfortunately where we live we can't use the chains with the cleats anymore and chains are not safe to use on a new suv or car now due to clearance in the wheel wells. Note: make sure you test fit and drive your car or truck to make sure they work right and are not hitting anything inside the wheelwell. . This is a review for the security chain company sz447 super z6 cable. . Note: when using any tire chain or cables like these. Test fit and give yourself plenty of time if this is your first time putting them on. We test fitted these and spent 20 minutes the first time. After that its about 4 minutes max per tire and about one minutes to release and take them off. Follow the video examples you can find on these. After a little bit of swearing the first time it should be much easier. -R. Margaret

company super z6 cable tire chain passenger cars, pickups, suvs - set Automotive Parts And Accessories, Super z6 was designed by scc for cars, trucks, and suv's with restricted clearance around the drive tires. based on scc's experience with other products in the "z" family, super z6 has one very special quality: it will operate in less than half of the space required by most cable chains and tire chains. super z6 requires only 6mm (1/4") of sidewall clearance to operate. the diagonal pattern provides constant traction, aggressive starting, stopping, cornering and ensures compatibility on vehicles equipped with traction control and electronically monitored brake systems. traction coils, made from alloy steel are more durable than conventional tire or cable chains. a split outside cable with two fastening positions allows for easy installation without moving the vehicle, and there's no need to stop and retighten. most cars, trucks and suv's manufactured since the late 80's will have special clearance requirements. don't be fooled by the appearance of the tire positioning on your vehicle. traction products not only have to fit the tire, but must also fit within the space provided around the tires. most issues are hidden from view as they are behind the tire near braces, suspension parts, strut housings, splash guards and fuel and brake lines. more information should be located in the owner's manual under chains, traction devices, tires or similar heading. it is important to select a traction product that is compatible with the minimum class assigned to your vehicle. the class assigned to your vehicle is based on the original tire and wheel size shown in your owner's manual. using a different size tire may affect the chain's ability to operate properly. some owner's manuals state that certain tire sizes do not provide enough clearnace to accommmodate winter traction products. the fact is, many of these vehicles can use scc's super z6. trying to measure the nearest obstruction under your vehicle could prove tricky. What's in the box chains, plastic gloves, one pair of rubber tensioners, durable, re-usable nylon bag, and clear, illustrated step-by-step installation and removal instructions.

Purchased two pairs of these for a 2004 accord and 2006 corolla to get through the out-of-the-ordinary snow & ice in the portland area for the past week. We live in an area with many steep hills and no snow plow service, and these cables really saved the day a few times over. We were one of the few people in our neighborhood able to use our cars. . For the 2004 accord, these cables fit perfectly. For the 2006 corolla, they worked, but were a little loose. At one point, the cables came off the corolla because i hadn't been careful enough about securing the cable clips and i had to do a side-of-the-road re-fit. Outside of that, no complaints. Worked great and are some of the easiest cables i've ever installed.

Click to see NoticeSecurity Chain Company Sz447 Passenger (Auto Accessory)"After a lot of research on the products by security chain company i settled on the superz cable chains. I do not expect to need them often and will update this review if i ever get stuck and have to try them out. At this time, however, i am rating their ease of installation, instructions and apparent build. . The chain set comes in a reinforced nylon carry bag. Nice touch, much better than having them loose in the the back of the truck. The instructions are quite clear, in multiple languages, and easy to follow. There's also a couple of on-line videos by the manufacturer that clearly show how to install them. To sum it up, roll out the chain, toss it around the rear of the wheel, attach the inside, top fastener, attach the two fasteners on the outside and put on the tensioner. One of the reasons i chose this set was specifically because of the tensioner. There are some chain sets that don't require one, but they do require you to re-tension them in use. It seems a lot easier to have this done through the elastic properties of the heavy duty rubber tensioner supplied with the kit. I see that replacements are readily available if they ever wear to the point of needing replacement. . I did a practice run putting them on in the comfort of my snow-free garage. In this circumstance i was able to do the first one, the first time ever, in less than 5 minutes. They really have been designed to go on quickly and smoothly. . The build quality of the chain set seems very good. I inspected the joints and can find none that seem likely to fail. Overall they seem solid and (relatively) light weight at about 11 pounds for the set. . The manufacturer also includes a pair of "waterproof gloves" but they are nothing but a plastic overglove that might be good for one or two uses."

New Duracell DRPP600 Powerpack 600 Jump Starter Emergency Power Source

I purchased the duracell dpp-600hd as part of a power system that i'll be using frequently in 2012. I volunteer with a non-profit and we have information booths at various community events starting around march and ending in october and to better display information i decided to set up a presentation video that can be looped. . One of the first things is that these power systems need to be fully charged before regular use. I was concerned as the duracell unit includes an unregulated power supply for charging, however i found that the on-board charging circuitry does properly regulate the charging voltage in order to prevent "cooking" the battery. . With the included 1000 ma power supply, from completely dead, it would take about 36-48 hours to fully charge. I found the on-board charger automatically regulated charging to around 13. 3 volts and this is good as to accommodate the widest range of temperature conditions. What is unfortunate however, is that at a typical temperature of around 65 degrees f, the charge voltage should be closer to 13. 86 volts. That's the difference of starting out with an 85% charge instead of a 100% charge, it could make a difference! . . Since i purchased this as part of a power system, i also added an instapark 50w mono-crystalline solar panel as well as a cirkits scc3 solar charge controller (plugged into the automotive plug on the duracell, not the charge port). What is nice about that charge controller is that i am able to set the charge voltage to 13. 86 volts and it will automatically compensate the voltage depending on the ambient temperature. . Fully charged, the 28 ah battery in the duracell dpp-600hd should last 2-3 years with occasional use as long as i leave the solar panel connected. Thanks for the great product!

New Duracell Drpp600 Powerpack 600 Jump Starter Emergency Power Source (8522007) FAQ.

I bought this item almost 2 years ago and have no complaints. It is still going strong. . When i went camping at bonnaroo, i had this battery in the tent with me. After 4 days of keeping my cell phone and rechargeable lantern charged, plus a few charges to the cell phones of visitors, it still showed 20% remaining. Having ac and dc outlets on a camping trip is great, especially when i saw others try to charge their stuff off their car and kill their battery. . I have also jump started a few cars with this. Again, it worked great. . My only complaint is that i wish the built in light were led based. It is silly to have an incandescent sucking power out of the battery when an led would have used so much less power. However, on a battery this big, even the inefficient bulb will last quite a while. I just use other led based flashlights/lanterns and charge them off this battery and avoid the built in light. I isn't really a significant issue. . I should also probably note that it is quite heavy. Not enough that moving it around is a problem, but you're not going to want to carry this (for example, on a hike from your car to your tent) if we're talking any further than 1 minute or so. -Notice from G. Theresa, Ohio

I purchased this battery in may of 2009, and i used it for my dj business to operate my bose l1 compact sound system for outdoor events where power outlets are non-existent or in the wrong place, and it works very well. It will run the l1 compact, two wireless lavalier microphones, and a wireless handheld microphone, along with my laptop computer and the bose tonematch mixer for up to three hours comfortably. It makes no noise whatsoever and provides "clean" power for my expensive electronics. For three years, it did everything i wanted it to do! . . However. My duracell 600hd powerpack ran down to a zero charge a couple of months ago, so i recharged it and tested it on a very light load after it had been fully recharged. I noted that after a week of sitting, the power level dipped to 70%, so charged it up once a week just to keep it on full "ready" for any time i might need it for an outdoor event or as backup power should the power go out somewhere where i was performing. Last weekend, i performed at an outdoor wedding, and i charged the battery up to 100% and even "topped it off" the morning of the wedding. Unfortunately, the power drained out of it in less than 45 minutes of performing time, leaving me scrambling to provide power for the last 10 minutes of the ceremony. . Later in the day, i ordered another duracell dpp-600hd to replace the dead one, and today i called duracell's customer support. I explained to brian the tech guy what had happened, and he said that is all the life i can expect to get out of this product: 2-3 years. At that point, the battery will not hold a charge and will have to be taken to a recycling center. . So. Today my new battery arrived, and i will take the old one to the recycling center. I know i can rely on a good two years from the product, but after that, i may need to buy my next one just in case the "new" one starts losing a charge before three years are up. . Bottom line: great product, but life expectancy is much shorter than i hoped for. If you're buying this product, you can trust it for up to 2 to 3 years, but then you need to understand it will have to be replaced.

- B. LindseyI purchased this external power supply about five years ago. We needed to be able to run the blower motor on our gas fireplace during power outages. For that purpose, it worked well. We kept this item plugged in on a regular basis, and then whenever the power went off, we would simply switch the fireplace plug over to this power supply and run the fan off that. We also used the built-in radio during power outages until it shorted out. How did that happen, you may wonder? a strong charge of static electricity killed it. During the cold, dry winters of northern minnesota, a person can build up quite a charge just by shuffling across the carpet in wool socks. It was in this charged state that i accidentally touched the radio antennae and zap, the radio and digital display went out. Online store and duracell refused to replace the whole item or repair it without a fee, so i took it apart myself and fixed the melted connection. The radio worked again, but the digital display never came back. A radio without a tuner isn't worth much, but i continued to use the power supply for other things. In the depths of winter, i was able to jumpstart our car when it was well below zero (with the included jumper cables). And this item is portable, so i was able to carry it to our cabin for camping, and on road trips across the country. You can't power the whole house with this product, but it is very useful for those emergencies that pop up in ordinary life.

Since i live in a condo and am unable to put up solar panels, i looked into putting together a solar generator. This battery pack is the most commonly recommended one for this project due to its versatility. It can power both ac and dc devices, has three handy ac power outlets, and can be charged in multiple ways: 1) wall charger (included), 2) car cigarette lighter cord (included), 3) solar panel (not included), 4) other alternative energy source (not included). . To get the most out of this battery it is important that your first charge be for an extended period. Plug it in for a week, regardless of what the charge status light says. I'm no engineer but i guess it's sort of like priming it for optimal use. . Now to the interesting part, connecting it to the solar panel! at first i mistakenly thought i could plug the panel into the the dc port as if hooking it up to a car or boat. This did not work. I somehow missed the part in the manual that says you can solar charge the battery via the ac port, which requires a standard 5. 5mm od x 2. 5mm id coaxial dc connector. This is the one i ended up getting: . The solar panel i got (http:// came with an extension cord that ends in some metal loops. I just wrapped the connector's white wire around the red loop, and the black wire of the connector to the blue loop. Put some electrical tape over it, and you are all set! . . The alternative power i mentioned i have not attempted myself. I read about someone else doing this. For power sources above 30 watts (solar or pedal-power) this person plugged it into the dc power port and it seemed to work for them. I'm just mentioning it to those who are curious, and as further evidence to this power pack's versatility. . The built-in light isn't all that bright, but it'll provide a decent amount of light in a pinch. One huge annoyance is the battery charge percentage indicator. According to the manual, it will only display an accurate reading if it's been unplugged from everything for 15 minutes. This includes both charge sources and devices using power. No idea why. It's annoying, so i pretty much ignore it. . This unit has a built-in charge controller. This is what allows you to plug a solar panel directly into it without damaging anything. It saves you the trouble of ordering a separate controller unit and fiddling with all those wires, which would reduce the handy portability of it. You also don't have to worry about overcharging the battery. According to the manual, when it reaches full charge, it will go into maintenance mode and basically trickle-charge to keep the battery topped up. . The manual is poorly organized (the part about fully charging the battery before you use it for anything is in the middle? ! ) but full of useful information that could have prevented most of the complaints mentioned in the negative reviews. I highly recommend you read it all before using this unit. Overall i am happy with this powerpack's versatility and portability! . . Update 5/7/2011: i recall a previous review saying that you can't use this battery to power anything while it is charging. This is not true. This very moment i have it outside charging via solar panel and my cell phone is plugged into it charging. Indicators on the battery and the phone say that they are both indeed charging. I've been using the solar panel as the only source of battery charging, and a full day is usually enough to fill it up. I haven't drained the battery from use yet. I pretty much use it to power a lamp with a cf bulb at night while i watch tv, and sometimes charge a phone with it at the same time. It is typically on for about 3-4 hours. In the morning when i check the battery's status, it says about 60% full. Hopefully that helps give you an idea about the battery's capacity as a solar generator. Not a real generator, but it's cool to have a tiny power source not reliant on coal. And you can take it anywhere!

Lifeline AAA 4026AAA 250 PSI 12 Volt 6 In 1 Air Compressor

I purchased another brand pump for over twice as much. It labored to inflate my boat and took a long time. After 20 minutes it was supposed to shut down to cool, but didn't, and broke after three uses. So i searched for a better pump. I was hesitant to purchase this pump because it was so in-expensive, but i read the reviews and decided to try it. I am really impressed, in less than 10 minutes it will inflate both sides of my 10 foot pontoon boat. I have only had this pump for about two weeks, but, will revise this review if it breaks down. I highly recommend this product.

The aaa 6-in-1 air compressor includes 3 nozzle adapters, power cord with cigarette plug, air pressure check gauge, light, flasher, quick inflator aaa membership brochure. It easily stores in your car and is powered by your car s cigarette lighter/adapter socket. Take it on the road and use it for your car tires, bike tires and inflatable rafts or mats. This easy-to-use inflator includes a light and flasher, so it s the perfect tool for roadside emergencies.

Aaa 250 Psi 12 Volt 6 In 1 Air Compressor (4026AAA) FAQ.

One of our cars has a mystery slow leak in a tire. We purchased this just to get the tire up to proper psi every week at home instead of having to make the trip to a service station. So far it has worked perfectly, no complaints at all. . Edit - i just wanted to update this review. I bought this compressor in 2008. It is now the end of 2015 and it is still working perfectly. We are always using it just to top off the air in the tires instead of heading to a gas station to do it. Definitely one of the best buys we have ever made! -Notice from P. Carol, Hartlepool

Arrived packed in small box - all accessories were present. I was surprised that it you plug it in to the 12v source and turn it on without attaching it to a tire, it blows air out the accessory vent. It apparently needs the back pressure of a tire to properly inflate. Also found that the red warning light is simply a red cover to the white light - therefore, you cannot have a red warning light while using the white light to see what you are doing. I have not used it to add air to a flat yet, but will advise once used on actual tire.

- Q. AndersonI try to keep all my cars tire pressures even and optimal, usually i do it every few weeks. After going through a bunch these 'air pressure pumps' i was losing hope that there was one that was consistent and did not die within a few months, however 3 years later this one is still going strong well worth the price.

Only used once. The tire inflation tube and the "raft" outlet both output air at the same time. That confused me at first, cause i thought there was some undocumented switch that would turn off raft mode, and on tire mode. . Takes a long (5+ minutes) time to inflate a flat tire.

Hopkins 532 Mallory 26 Snow Brush Foam Grip Colors may vary

Worked great. I didn't have the issue of the bristles falling out like other reviewers stated. . My only complaint was that the scraper end was on the same end as the handle. Which basically had me grabbing the brush end to scrape the center of my windshield.

Mallory usa, by hopkins manufacturing, is the leading brand of snow and ice tools in canada and north america. Mallory is recognized for quality, durability and lightweight solutions. Mallory's 26" snow tool brush is comfortable and easy to use with its curved handle, comfort foam grip, and unbreakable scraper blade. Thick bristles make brushing snow and ice quick and painless. A must have for any vehicle.

Hopkins 532 Mallory 26" Snow Brush Foam Grip (colors May Vary) (Mallory Usa) FAQ.

I like this brush/scraper. The plastic scraper breaks apart the ice and the brush has stiff bristles to brush away snow. It's a small unit though, and next time i will probably get a longer one since there isn't much handle space between the scraper and brush. Overall, i would buy another one of these again, especially to have as a spare. -Notice from X. Russell, Michigan

I live in north carolina, so to gauge how much snow / ice this was used in - not much, about an inch or two of each, in fact i didn't really even expect to need it, but anyways:. . It arrived on time as expected. . The weather did actually manage to produce a need for it this year, and i must say it held up well. I scraped all 4 windows, the front and rear windshield 4 times this year, and am happy to say this little trooper is still holding up well. . I do agree with what you're probably thinking in that you'd probably hope for more than 4 uses out of a thing that gets 5 stars. But, as i have no complains from it yet, and it seems good ole punxy phil was right - the weather is warming - it looks like it's going to be another year before this thing gets used again. . If something comes up that would require i change the rating, i'll be sure to do so, but i don't really expect that to be the case, and certainly not any time before december.

- W. HakalaI bought this brush for my car. It has long handle, so i can easily reach almost all part of the vehicle (sidewise) without having to do a lot of stretching. The brush end and hard end give you choice to whether you want to clear the dust or remove something stuck in your vehicle. Once my car was covered extensively by bird poop (when i parked my vehicle under a bridge), at that time this brush came very handy. I know people don't buy this brush for that reason, but i can confirm it will definitely serve that purpose as well. I took off one star because the seller does not let you choose the color. I did not like the red color, and he send me that color. I wish there is a way for us to select the color. Other than that, definitely worth to buy it.

I was a city girl who didn't see that much snow, therefore i didn't really need this. However, i now moved to the country and boy! snow and ice (not the game of thrones series) is something that you see almost everyday. Winter is definitely here. . I purchased two of these brushes. My boyfriend and i love them. The brush helps remove the dusty snow off the whole car and the ice scraper, well, scrapes ice off the windows. The 26 inches handle makes this convenient to reach the middle of the windows or the top of the car, without you having to get wet from the snow/ice.

Security Chain Company SZ335 Shur Grip Super Z Passenger Car Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2

These Are Amazing Products. They Were Very Well And Basically Turned My Rwd Skinny Tired Volvo 240 Into A Snow-go Machine. As Always Be Mindful Of Their Limits (about 30 Mph) And Realize That Don't Help The Car Steer Any Better On Rwd. On My Particular Car Volvo Recommends Traction Aids Only Be Applied To The Rear Wheels Not The Front. I Have A Rwd Ford Van That Uses "super Z Lt" Traction Cables That Are Basically The Same But I Have Them On All Four Wheels. Well Worth The Time And Modest Expense. Also If You Ware Wondering There Is No Comparison Between These Products And "winter Tires. " Winter Tires Are Basically Made Of A Softer Rubber (at A Given Temperature) With A Tread Pattern That Is Ideal For Packed Snow And Ice. They Can Go Highway Speeds But They Will Not Do Much To Help In Soft Snow. These Traction Cables Are Much More Effective In Soft Snow Than Any Winter Tire Can Be Because They Provide Traction Not Such Much By Friction Of The Rubber With The Surface But By The "wrenching" Effect Of The Cable Digging Into The Snow/ice. The Make A Road Tire Act Like An Agricultural Tractor Tire Basically And Have The Same Limitations. Also For Some Cars The Whitestar Alloy Traction Chains May Be A Better Choice. The Z Pattern Works Well For Cars But I Think For Trucks Or Vans The Chains May Be Better. They Are Heavier And They Have A Diamond Pattern So You Always Have Some Chain In Contact With The Surface. The Z Patterns Sometimes Has Points Where Only Rubber Meets The Surface And No The Cable But This Isn't A Problem So Much With Cars.

Shur grip z is a patented scc product that is designed to meet the traction product needs of the everyday consumer and is available to fit most passenger car tire sizes. Shur grip z offers a unique combination of performance and convenience features for every user.

Security Chain Sz335 Passenger Traction (Auto Accessory) FAQ.

I Gave This Product To Stars Because They Are Indeed Easy To Install But I Would Have Given Them Negative 20 Stars Because They Are Just As Easy To Lose. Two Of The Plastic Yellow Hooks On One Of The Tightening Straps Snapped Off On The First Installation. So I Went To My Local Car Parts Store And Purchased A Replacement Tightening O-ring Off The Same Dimensions Of The Ones That Came With These Cable Chain Set. I However Got To Use These Cable Chains Only Once Before They Started Getting More And More Loose. The Guys At My Local Tire Store Took A Look At Them And Advised Me That The Steel Cable Used To Build These Wasn't The Best Quality. If You Happened To Have Bought A Pair Of These Make Sure That You Keep Listening To Sound They Make While You Drive For It Will Keep Getting Louder And Louder As You Use Them Which Will Mean That They Will Need To Be Tightened Despite The Fact That They Are Supposed To Be Self Tightening. I Did Just That Every Time I Heard Them Getting Louder And Against My Better Judgement I Kept Using Them And Tightening Them Only For The Inner Fastening Link And Hook Buckle To Finally Snap And Then Fall Off While I Was Driving. I Was Lucky That I Wasn't Going Any Faster Than 12 Miles Per Hour So I Heard It Happen And Managed To Pull Over Without Causing Any Damage To My Car. Since This Happened On A Busy Road I Was Unable To Retrieve The Pieces Otherwise I Would I Would Be Posting Pictures Of This Junk. Don't Waste Your Money Do Yourself A Favor And Invest On A Pair Of European Or American Made Snow Chains Or Tire Socks. Otherwise You Will Regret It. -Notice from P. Elanor, East Riding of Yorkshire

I Bought The Chains This Is A Personal Review. Did The Trial Install In The Driveway Today And I Got The Chains On First Try. Seriously I Am Not Strong And I Have Never Done This Before Was Pretty Sure I Wouldn't Be Able To Manage This And They Went Right On. Didn't Think I Would Be Able To Get The Tensioners Secured But Following The Top To Bottom Side To Side Method I Managed It. Our Last Chains Were $25 Cheaper Were A Nightmare To Line Up And Get On And Then In And Out Of The Car Trying To Secure The Tension. I Can't Wait To See The Husband's Face When I Put The Chains On Next Trip! Then It Goes Back To Being His Job :) Will Post Photos After First Snow.

- L. MableSuper Easy To Install (as Far As Chains And Cables Go Anyways). These Helped Our 2010 Honda Fit Sport Get Up And Over The Siskouyus During A Pretty Rough Winter Storm. The Chain Up Lot Near The Highway Entrance Was Full Of Folks Putting Their Chains/cables On When We Arrived And About Equally Full Of The Same Folks When We Finished Chaining Up-- I Think Even The Folks Who Were Halfway Finished When We Started Were Still Working On Getting There Chains On When We Left. Of Course We Did A Practice Round Of Chaining Up At Home Before We Left But The Included Instructions Are Pretty Straight Forward And Easy Enough To Handle (i Do Recommend A Practice Round Or 3 Before You Get On The Road). So Glad We Paid The Extra $$ To Get The More Highly Rated Cables.

These Were Required For The Drive Up To Big Bear California. We Pulled Over To The Side Of The Road And I Put Them On My Wifes Prius V While It Was Sleeting In Teh Middle Of The Night. So We Didn't Want To Be Out There Long. I've Put On A Similar Pair Before So Was Able To Do This One Fairly Quickly. Which Was Important In The Freezing Rain. We Had To Drive Pretty Slow But I Think Thats Normal. Still Annoying When You're Going 5mph And The Subaru Behind You Is Flying Past. That Said It Did The Job We Got Up Safely.

Hopkins Subzero 16621 Ice Crusher Ice Scraper Colors May Vary

So right off the bat, i need to admit that i'm using this scraper in texas and the amount of ice i'm using it on would probably be laughed at by anybody from the north. . Now that that's out of the way, i can safely say that this scraper works perfectly. It's small enough to fit in my glove box, very sturdy, and sharp enough to scrape ice with ease. I ended up ordering 2 of these, one for my truck and one for my wife's car.

For over forty years hopkins manufacturing and subzero have shaped the winter snow and ice tools category. The hopkins subzero ice crusher scraper has a 4. 5" blade that clears frost instantly on one end and a separate ice chipper on the other end that improves ice removal capability

Hopkins Subzero 16621 Ice Crusher Ice Scraper (colors May Vary) (Auto Accessory) FAQ.

Received this just a couple weeks ago and stored it in the bottom part of my glove box (2012 toyota sienna, there's a smaller top and larger bottom glove box). It fits perfectly in there along with some other documents and, admittedly, crap that i should probably get rid of or move to the house. In any case, the temperature in my area has only dropped below freezing twice and i was able to test it out and it passed with flying colors. The handle and neck of the scraper are sturdy, and although i had to put a good amount of pressure down to scrape the ice away from my windshield, i was never concerned that any part of it would snap off. I haven't had the need to use the other end of it, but i'm sure it works just as well. . It's funny. I've wanted an ice scraper for years, and because of the short time that it actually gets cold enuff to need one, i never have picked one up. When i was first driving, i would just use a cd case. This is a big upgrade. Plus. Who carries a cd case any more? ; -) -Notice from Y. Anonymous, Greenwich

This little thing works remarkably well, quickly clearing ice and snow. The handle is comfortable and the angle is good to keep your fingers dry but still touch the glass. The only change that would make it perfect is extending the handle just a bit so short people can get the center of the windshield. But it's very nearly there so if you don't have an suv, it will be perfect. Buying another for a family member.

- X. JosephineI live in an area where we have never had snow and only a few times of the year get frosty windows. I purchased this for those few times originally, but was somewhat bummed when the frost left before i got a chance to use it. Well, last night i found an alternative use for it. We have a chest freezer that needed to be cleaned out because lemon juice leaked everywhere! after talking about it a while- the idea popped it my hubbys head of using the scraper on it instead of waiting for the freezer ice to melt and having to toss all the food in the freezer. It took less than 10 minutes for the ice in the freezer to be scraped off all 4 walls and the floor of the freezer. We then used a trash bound box as a soup to scoop the ice up and trash it followed by wiping the ice free walls and floor of the freezer with a wet rag. The freezer is 3 years old and has never been cleaned or thawed because it seemed like a daunting task- the whole process took about 15 minutes with the both of us for a freezer large enough to fit a whole cow's worth of meat. I am very pleased with this little ice scraper. I had a different gas station one years ago when i did live where it snowed a lot, but that one was so big, bulky, and flimsy, that i tossed it when moving to warmer climates. This little gem, however, is very sturdy and doesn't give way. It is also compact enough to leave in a car kit at all times- snow or no snow. The ice of our freezer was really built on thick and a pain when we had to move racks, and this little puppy went through it like it was nothing. I am very pleased with this purchase and i think it will work wonders for when our frosted windows season starts again next year!

I bought this a month ago, hoping to use it and i got to with a snow storm that came through. I used to use the snow brush/scraper handle type, which is great for brushing off snow, but not good at removing ice. I saw this on online store & saw the other great reviews and i knew i had to get it. We had a snow storm come through a few days ago & i woke up to iced over windows. I used claw part and started to rip into it, then i flipped the blade scraper part and cleaned the windows clean of ice. I was pretty amazed at how quick i took this ice off. This wasn't real thick but i'm pretty confident it'll eat through thick ice. For the price of this winter tool you really can't go wrong, and it'll sure make things easier on those cold mornings with the wind blowing & freezing out. I was so impressed i had to shoot a small video just to show how good it works. Do yourself a favor and get one of these.

Security Chain Company SZ486 Super Z8 8mm Commercial Light Truck Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2

I Live In The White Mountains Of Nh Where Driveways Are Steep And Snow Is Plentiful. I Have Been Struggling With Plowing My 600' Driveway With Stock Tires I Tow A Lot And Can't Justify Buying Winter Tires . After Sliding Into A Ditch I Started Searching. These Really Looked Good So I Took A Chance. This Was The Best $100 Bucks I Have Ever Spent. Easy On/easy Off. Great Traction. So Good I Can Back Up My Steep Icy Driveway With The Plow On The Truck! I Don't Know How They Would Stand Up To Daily Road Use But For What I Do These Are The Best!

Super z6 was designed by scc for cars, trucks, and suv's with restricted clearance around the drive tires.

Security Chain Company SZ486 Super Z8 8mm Commercial Light Truck Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2Security-Chain-SZ486-Commercial-TractionThe scc super z8 sz486 winter traction product offers superior performance for large pickup and suv tire sizes, as well as small to medium-sized commercial trucks under 20, 000 pounds (gross vehicle weight) with very limited operating clearance around the drive tires. Be ready for winter driving with an innovative solution that is a step beyond traditional tire chains. New design based on the "z" family of products, the super z8 is designed for vehicles with restricted clearance around the drive tires. The super z8 requires only 8. 2 millimeters (. 32 inches) of sidewall clearance to operate, less than half the space required by most cable and tire chains. The super z8 installs quickly and easily. View installation guide. Be prepared for driving this winter with super z8 traction systems. A diagonal crossmember pattern provides better outstanding traction and durability than conventional chain systems. Easy to install a split outside cable with two fastening positions allows for easy installation without moving the vehicle, so there's no need to stop and retighten. The traction coils are manufactured from alloy steel to increase the lifespan of the product. The super z8 is also designed to prevent scratching of alloy or high performance tire rims. Versatility the super z8 is available to fit large pickup, suv, and small to medium-sized commercial truck tire sizes. It offers a unique combination of performance and convenience features for every user, including a "designed-in" rubber tightener, better all-around traction performance than conventional tire chains or cables, and greater durability. Designed for high performance the super z8 has better compatibility with anti-lock brakes, traction control, all-wheel drive, and other electronically monitored control systems so as not to interfere with the normal handling characteristics of your vehicle. The unique design also offers a low potential for damage to vehicle body and mechanical components, even when abused. The super z8 sz486 is designed for tires sizes from approximately 35x12. 50-15lt up to 325 millimeters. Check the manufacturer's website for the exact product to fit your tire size. Also check your owner's manual for clearance specifications before installing winter traction products. What's in the box chains, plastic gloves, one pair of rubber tensioners, durable, re-usable nylon bag, and clear, illustrated step-by-step installation and removal instructions.

I Do Not Drive In The Snow Very Often At All. I Have A Large Suv That Is Not 4x4 So I Purchased These Just In Case On Our Utah Trip. I Did End Up Needing The Cable-chains. They Were Very Simple To Use. Not Having To Run Them Over In Order To Put Them On Was The Greatest Invention Ever! I Did Not Rinse Them Off For Three Days After I Took Them Off And Within That Delay They Got A Lot Of Rust On Them. These Chains/cables Themselves Are Top Of The Line And Of Great Quality. The First Time I Put Them On One Of The Rubber Tighteners Snapped And I Had To Send Them Back To Online Store. Online Store Replaced The Chains No Problem But I Can See The Tighteners Breaking Again In The Future. It Wold Be Smart To Purchase Some Extra Tighteners Just In Case But They Are Hard To Find. The Chains Grip Great In Snow And Mud.

- X. CrawfordEven Though I Went To The Scc Website To Ensure A Proper Fit For My Tires The Chains Just Barely Fit And Use Only Four Of The Six Plastic Clips On Each Of The Tires. It Took About 30 Minutes To Stretch Them Around The Tires Have A Secure Fit. Other Than The Size Issue The Chains Easy To Use And Much Better Than Many Standard Chains. I Would Recommend Them As Long As They Fit Your Tires And Have Enough Slack To Make For A Good Fit.

Sz492 Is The Size You Need For A 37x12. 5 Tire (like A Humvee Take-off) They Fit Beautifully. I Previously Had Them On 35's And Although They Fit They Were Very Loose And I Ended Up Using Two Cable Ties Per Tire To Try And Take Up The Slack. I Think Their Sizing Information Is A Little Off. Regardless I Am Very Happy With Them On A 37" Tall Tire. Easy To Install Just Wrap Them Around Two "clip Ins" Per Tire And String Up The Rubber Tensioner. Maximum Of 5 Minutes For Both Tires Couldnt Be Easier. I Got The Chance To Use Them Put Them On The Front Of My K10 With A Spartan Locker And Wow. These Things Are Like Cheating. I Was Driving On Straight Ice And Almost No Slipping Or Sliding. I Even Towed Another Car Up A Sheet Of Ice!! And Dont Even Think I Spun At All. I Am Sold On These Things I May Order Another Set So All 4 Tires Can Have Chains But Just Having Them On The Front Was Like Driving Around With Spikes In Your Tires Amazing Traction For The Ice. The Only Thing Is They Are Quite Harsh To Ride On And Speeds Need To Be Kept Below 15mph Or The Vibration Gets Pretty Bad But That Goes For Most Snow Chains

This will ensure you get out of the most dire of circumstances. Once the mats are in place, you only need to press lightly on your accelerator to get the vehicle moving again. The superior traction tread of the escaper buddy grabs onto your tires so they don't slip and thus prevents your vehicle from digging into whatever ground condition is affecting you. In case of a non-traction related emergency, the escaper buddy's high visibility day-glo orange color allows them to be used as an emergency signaling device to attract the attention of passing vehicles. Built for functionality, durability and storability, the low profile escaper buddy cleans up easily after each use and is designed to fit comfortably in most trunk spaces.

Haven't Had A Chance To Use Them Yet But I Have Educated Several On What They Are. So Far I Have Been Asked If Im A Lifeguard If They Are Stretchers And If They Are Like Floaties From Baywatch And More Nearly Every Time Ive Stopped For Gas Somebody Asked Me What They Are. They Are Very Sturdy But Sadly They Aren't Molded To Allow Stacking Them For Easily Loading More Then 2 And For Bridging Like Many Of The Others But These Are The Most Affordable Too. Will Likely Buy Another Set To Keep With Another Vehicle. Update: I Have Now Used These 2x Once With The Fj40 Below And With An Fj Cruiser In Sand Both Times They Were Winched But Allowed The Vehicle To Come Up And Out Breaking Suction And Practically Driving Out On Its Own Making For A Much Easier Recovery! I Built A Mount And Did Drill Three Holes In Mine To Allow A Way To Securely Mount Them. You Will See The Lock In The Center Aswell As 2 Other Threaded Post With Wing Nuts To Hold Them Tightly. -Notice from G. Rhonda, Merton

- I. OpheliaHoly Moly! I Could Not Believe How Strong These Were. I Did Melt The Points Off One Pretty Easily. I Think That Is Not Uncommon For The Plastic Models No Matter The Manufacturer. I Can Tell You That They Make A Pretty Decent Anchor Too. I Didn't Have A Pull Pal And We Were Way Stuck In A Silt Road In A Rainstorm In Moab Area. Wrapped Winch Cable Around It Buried It In A Road And Winched A Heavy Van Uphill To It Twice. The Synthetic Winch Cable Pulled Through The Handles And It Bent Slightly But That's Okay Because It Got Us Up The Hill. Highly Recommended. Don't Expect Them To Do Much On Ice Or Snow Though. They Just Shoot Out The Backend Which Is A Little Humorous But Not Useful. Not Much Will Help You There.

Even With Four Wheel Drive It's Not Difficult To Get Stuck In The Snow. In An F250 I Was Stuck In A About A Foot Of Snow (without Snow Tires). I Was Able To Use These To Eventually Free Myself But Getting Them Into Position Was Difficult. You Have To Get Them Almost Under Your Tire (better Have A Shovel). These Could Be Vastly Improved By Afixing A 6" Metal Plate Scored/perforated With Sharp Traction Spikes To Help Your Tire Grip The Device And Pull It Under The Tire. Otherwise You Will Just Spin Your Tires And Melt The Small Tabs On The Lip (as Others Have Mentioned).

Security Chain Company SZ1172 Tire Traction Chain Rubber Tightener - Set of 2

A Lot Of Reviewers Said The Ones That Come With The Security Chains Will Eventually Break So It Is A Good Idea To Have These As Back-ups. They Were Unbelievably Cheap So I Bought Them For That. They Are Exact Replacments For The Originals. Glad I Have The Extra Peace Of Mind To Have Them In The Bag In My Trunk.

This scc rubber tightener is for use with select shur grip z and super z6 traction tire chains. Replace your lost or broken tighteners, or you may want to keep a spare set on hand just in case. It is sold in pairs.

I Researched Just About Every Single Tire Chain Option And I Settled On These. Not Only Is The Price Great But The Quality Is Great! They Work Very Well For My Mazda 3 With Alloy Rims. They Are The Easiest Tire Chains I Have Ever Put On. I Like The Rubber-band/clip Tensioning System But As Other Reviewers Have Said Buy An Extra Pair Just In Case.

- Y. DebraThis Is My First Purchase Of Tire Chains/cables So Nothing To Compare With. Pros: It Provided Good Traction On The Snow And Ice They Stayed On Alright Without Adjustment For Three Days Trip To Big Bear. Cons: While It Was Easy To Put In A Garage During Test It Proved To Be Very Hard In The Field Condition In Freezing Weather.

Used These Over The Winter On The Garden Tractor And They Held The Chains Tight To The Tire. No Slippage Easy To Install And Remove. Wish I Had These Several Years Ago.

These Are Simple And Effective At Quickly Snugging Up The Tire Chain To Ensure It Stays Where You Want It. I Recommend These Even For Cam-style Chains As They Take Any Remaining Slack Out Of The Install. For The Price Just Get An Extra Pair Now As Backup! In Terms Of Fit These Work Perfectly For Full-size Pickup Tires (or Suvs With Equivalent Sized Tires) But Would Likely Not Be Effective For Smaller Vehicles (compact And Perhaps Even Mid-size Suv Or Similar). In Terms Of Installation I Agree With Reviewer "e. Richards" In That You Should Install At 4 And 8 Then 12 Then 10 And 2 For The Easiest/quickest Install Possible. Please Note That While These Might Help Keep Oversized Chains On The Tire It Is Critical To Get The Right Size Chain For Your Application Both For Performance And Safety. Tire Chains Can Cause Substantial Damage To A Vehicle When They Come Loose Not To Mention The Risk Associated With A Sudden Loss Of Traction. Update Jan 6 2012: One "con" I Found With These Tighteners Is That The "c" Style Connectors Are Likely To Fall Off The Rubber Ring During Removal In Cold Temps. Because The Rubber Is Stretched And Stiff It Has A Smaller Diameter Than At Install And Can Easily Slip Through The Opening. Drop One Of Those Little Buggers In Some Snow And Good Luck Finding It! I Lost Two On The First One I Removed (i Wised Up After That And Was Far More Careful). After Removing If You Take The Tighteners Indoors For A Few Minutes They Will Quickly Shrink Back To Their Original Size And Be Ready For Another Installation. Update Jan 4 2017: The Quality Of The Rubber On These Seems To Be On The Decline. Whereas I Used To Be Able To Get A Season's Use Out Of Them I Am Finding That I Am Now "lucky" To Have Them Not Break After Being On The Truck For A Couple Of Months. Keep In Mind That This Is A Couple Of *winter* Months In Fairbanks Alaska So Uv Degradation From Sunlight Should Not Be An Issue. I Was Okay With Spending Approximately $20 Per Year On A Set Of Four But Doing So Multiple Times A Season Just Isn't Acceptable. I Am Purchasing One More Set Today Just To See How They Do But It Will Be My Last If They Break Prematurely. I Am Also Dropping My Review To Four Stars (it May Go Lower With The Next Update!).

I Purchased These Tighteners To Go Along With My Security Tire Chains. They Are Very Necessary To Insure A Snug Fit Of Your Chains To The Tires. I Found Them To Be Somewhat Difficult To Install The First Time Due To The Fact That You Must Stretch The Rubber To Get The Clips To Reach The Chains. The Tension Of The Rubber Ring Is What Tightens The Chains. I Hope That It Will Be Easier Next Time. I Recommend Working Clips At Opposite Ends Of The Ring As Opposed To Going Around The Ring In A Circular Fashion. When You Go Around The Last Couple Of Hooks Will Be Very Tight And Hard To Attach. It Should Be Easier If You Clip One Hook At 12 Oclock And Then The Next At About 6 Oclock Then Work The Sides From There.

- Q. RitaIn Theory This Is A Good Product. Stretchy Appropriately Sized Should Work Good Right Well My Experience Was Otherwise. I Bought The First Pair Initially With The Tire Chains And I Was Able To Stretch Them Out (they Are Pretty Tight The First Time) And Get Them Attached. After A While The Rubber Started To Crack And Split. I Figured It Was Because Of Spinning The Tires In The Mud And Chalked It Up To Operator Error. I Purchased Another Set This Spring And Put Them On. One Of The Tighteners Snapped Right Away. I Just Don't Think They Are Very Good. I'm Thinking Really Seriously About Just Using Some Short Bungie Cords Criss-crossed Over The Wheel. That Said I Put My Tire Chains On In December And Left Them On Until February Because They Go On A Truck That Stays On My Property And Is Used For Gathering Firewood. Maybe They Are Not Meant For More Than Temporary Use. At The Price I Suppose They Could Be Considered Something That Should Be Replaced Every Year But I Set The Bar A Little Higher.

We Are Leaving For A Trip Through The Mountains This Week So Today I Did A Trial Run Mounting Of My New Scc Chains And New Chain Tighteners. This Work Was Done Indoors And All Went Well Until Installing The 2nd Tightener When Stretching The Tightener To Attach The 3rd Of 5 Hooks The Rubber Broke. This Concerns Me As Tighteners Are Needed For These Particular Chains -- And Had The Tightener Broke In An Icy Mountain Pass I Might Well Be Up The Creek. Should I Trust The Other Tightener That Did Not Break (yet) Or Should I Assume It Might Be Of The Same Poor Quality As The One That Broke And Is Not To Be Trusted Since This Is Basically A Safety Issue I Will Not Take A Chance On Trusting The 1st Tightener. The Stakes Are Too High. I Will Be In Touch With Online Store And Have Little Doubt That Online Store Will Refund My Purchase. But It Would Make No Sense To Ask For A Replacement Pair. Will Be Looking For Quality Tighteners Or Might Just Use Rubber Tarp Straps.

The F.A.Q. for security chain company sz447 super z6 cable tire chain for passenger cars, pickups, and suvs - set of 2

Vehicle and tire size: 2015 honda cr-v touring with p225/60r18 tires (stock size tire on the touring model). . Note: this online store website does not correctly id tire cable size (sz429) as a fit for my vehicle. However, after speaking to steve at security chain co. (scc) for the best fit, he confirmed that the sz429 model was the right one if i wanted low profile snow cables. His verbal matched my findings through the provided scc tire guide pdf link found within every scc listed snow chain/cables offering here on online store. . I took his confirming word, ordered on a wednesday morning for a friday delivery using prime 2 day shipping. Item arrived on time and off we went friday night in our (relatively) new crv to sequoia np where up to 6" of snow was expected saturday. . I own and use scc snow cables on my 04 durango slt so i know how much easier they are to put on versus standard snow chains that i used to battle with in my younger days on many different tire sizes. . This new set didn't dissapoint on use 1 that covered about 100 miles of snow/ice covered national park paved roads and not so paved back roads. They held up just fine, as expected from scc, without any of the negative things that other reviewers claimed went wrong with their scc purchase. Operator size purchase or installation error is what i gather affected negative opinions the most. . The installation directions could have been titled, "snow cable installation for dummies/idiots" it was so straight forward. The chains were installed in about 10 minutes total on a flat, icy parking lot surface. The 2 provided rubber tensioners were just as idiot installation proof as well. Dora asks, can you follow picture instructions? you did it! . . I'll be honest in stating that i did not read the cable removal instructions but that did not hinder my reverse installation process a whole lot and the chains were off in about 10 minutes (will be maybe 5 minutes next time after i read how to formally remove them). . The cables came in a little blue nylon bag with the added bonus of a window scraper (that i used instead of the smaller handled one i packed), clear plastic disposable gloves to assist with installation (i use reusable mechanic gloves), the aforementioned two rubber tensioners and the clear instructions. . I don't see the nylon bag holding up long but it's a good starter. I generally just carry the chains in one of those sturdy reusable cloth grocery bags. . I really just posted my feedback so others with my tire size know that sz429 is a match because i could not find a confirmation here without calling scc directly. . Happy, safe snow/ice travels to all while wearing these easy to use snow cables. . P. S. . I was traveling in that inclimate weather with my wife, daughter and my niece, so my trust in another scc product used to keep the most precious cargo safe was rewarded with a safe round trip. Thank you scc.

I bought 2 pairs for my front 2-wheel drive buick lacrosse 2005 cxl. Without them i practically slid out of my parking space and into a snow bank at mt. Baker's ski area in washington. With them, i lead the pack of awd drive vehicles down the mountain. Easily the best money i've spent on winter vehicle safety ever. It seems like a cumbersome job but with some garage practice i was able to cable up in deep and heavy snowfall conditions in under 5 minutes. Only thing you want to be sure to get right is getting the 'top' (behind the wheel) eyelet and pin above the tire so you can see it. Once that's in it becomes a simple task to complete. With online store's vehicle fit utility, you should have a big green checkmark telling you this product works for your vehicle and tire size. If not, make sure! . . In washington state these meet requirements for "tire chains required" passes (like snoqualmie pass on i90). Awesome product.

I have a 2008 toyota sienna xle (front wheel drive) with 225/60-r17 tires. Unfortunately, online store seems to recommend size 139 for my vehicle. I am returning the size 139 because it doesn't fit. You should consult the scc size chart. The scc size chart says size 143. I first bought the size 143 from a craigslist seller and tried them on. They are very easy to install and the super z6 appears to be a solidly built chain. The tighteners are easy to put on as well. My concern came when i jacked my sienna up and spun the wheel, checking clearances with everything. On the inside of the wheel, the circumferential cable just barely brushed the bracket and wiring for my front brake line and abs sensor harness. It only did this on one part of the rotation, and other parts had several inches of clearance. If this cable wore through or tore out this brakeline/wire harness, that would be an expensive repair. . I slightly bent the brakeline/wire harness bracket to give just a smidge more clearance. I can't move it much. I then drove my car out on the driveway and backed it back into the garage and rechecked clearances. It seems to have balanced out just a bit more with about half an inch of clearance at the tightest part of the rotation. But still other parts of the rotation clear with several inches. I am guessing that driving will balance out the clearances. . This chain would be ideal if it gave a slightly longer inside circumferential cable with a slightly shorter outside cable. The clearances would easily not be a concern at that point. The width of size 143 seems appropriate, if only just a smidge too wide. My ideal chain would be slightly longer on inside and outside cables, with less width. But the scc chart says nothing about actual chain dimensions. . I am going to run with the size 143 when i need to. Hopefully, that won't destroy my sensor wires.

Took it to reno. I did not watch the video but paid those on the side of i-80 when we reached placerville. I have a busted shoulder and in a car full of girls. Anyways, fast forward. Stopped by sierraville on the 89 to a hotspring and we removed the chains on the way there since i got tired of only going 30mph. After leaving the hotspring, snow started falling and thought it was the most beautiful thing and mesmerizing while driving so me and my companions decided to stop and take pictures. We live in san francisco. So we get back in the car and i step on the accelerator and nothing was happening. We were officially stuck. This is not a very busy road. A couple trucks passed by while looking at our group. A nice gentleman in a subaru was nice enough to stop and help us as we were struggling to install. He installed the cable in under 3mins each tire and his technique was better than the one on the video. He lives in the area so he's used to the snow. Us city girls learned how to install and remove as it can get costly after a while and you never know when you'll need to install them. So, after 3days of on and off use in the sierra's/nevada i can say that this product works as advertised. I found the included tightener works. The plastic gloves not so much, you need leather or thick gloves you don't mind dirtying up. I brought pliers but it was not necessary. As me and my friends are not professional snow cable applicators we thought we did great once we figured out how to put them on. Removal was easy. If your not a pro, then assistance is great. When i got back home from the trip i greased it up before storing as it was already getting rusty. After all it's made of steel and was subjected to abuse. Snow, rain, and steel don't really play well with each other. I saw other vehicles with chains/cable pass me up when i was going 30mph the maximum speed for these cables but i did not want to risk it. And note that just because you have these cables don't mean you no longer slide and you need a longer stopping distance so just slow it down. Until next season. P. S. I read someone suggesting to pre stretch the rubber tightener. While it might seem like a great idea for wimps and lazy folks umm remember that it's called a tightener for a reason.

W. Perez, Rochdale

Got these in advance of a trip to the snow. Thank god! so much easier to put on than the chain pair we had. The rubber tighteners were awesome and i did not have to stop and retighten these things like i always had to do with the chain pair. Highly recommend watching the video even though they are somewhat intuitive. I showed my son how to put them on and he had a hard time getting that the front connectors had to be at a 90 degree angle for them to latch. When you put them on, they almost immediately spread out, which made them a little tough to connect. Simple solution is to keep the triangle pattern from spreading out as far and it gives you the slack you need to get them closed. We put them on in the daylight and took them off at night. I don't think there is ever really a way to not get dirty dealing with chains, and these were no exception, but they came off quick. I did not even try to pack them away because i like to clean up my chains after use, so i had a garbage bag ready to just toss them into afterwards. I had great traction on packed snow. No slippage at all.

L. Gilmore, West Virginia says

I purchased these for our 2017 ford exporer xlt two days before a trip to tahoe as a just in case . And they were a lifesaver! after watching some tutorials on youtube (highly recommend you do this! ) the installation was a snap - maybe a few minutes per tire at most. Given the nasty conditions on i80 this past weekend i would simply have not been able to drive back home (or get up the mountain) without these. Not a mark on our wheels and no problem. The only concern was when i was on pavement - but the chains didn t have any problems and we ll store them safely until next year. Absolutely happy - especially when i saw the damage on another driver s car from cheapo chains that were flopping around.

F. Jessica, Aquitaine

Have not used them in snow yet, but have put them on wow very easy to install and they are low profile and slim on my 2006 saturn vue, and nowhere near rubbing anything on the front tires. I ordered extra set for the back tires, and upon a dry run in the yard they did slightly rub the parking brake line, but im still glad i ordered the extra pair anyway as spares, and if its life or death will run them on the rear tires anyway after what little damage they will do to the parking brake line, which hardly ever gets used anyway. Highly recommend!

X. Wayt, Gateshead says

Double check the sizing, these were a bit loose for the tires i bought them for, but customer service was quick to help. Ease of installation was incredible - i used to dread putting on chains, but these really couldn't have been easier to put on. Driving up and down the main road in sequoia national park in feb was easy with these and as the snows started to melt they were fine on the pavement too. Buying chains was cheaper than renting them, and now i have them in case i really need them. They were installed on a toyota yaris, so we're not talking about a huge amount of clearance to work with either. . If you need something that is easy to get on, and easy to take off, look no further.

M. Rhonda, Alaska

These worked great. Only used them once in freezing rain when i had to go pick up the kids at day care. City streets in minnesota. I installed them while the truck was in my garage and it was pretty easy. They worked great! up and down some steep hills on ice. Like i said, i only used them once all winter but i carried them in my truck the whole season so the piece of mind was worth it. . I've got a new truck now and different size tires so i'm buying another set.

C. Elanor, Tennessee says

Bought these back when the west coast got hit hard by snow and ice. Not too heavy, comes in a soft nylon bag with dual zippers and handles for easy storage and carrying. I have not had to use these yet but have installed them in my car while parked in a garage for practice. I would highly recommend watching the youtube video and reading the instruction manual to familiarize yourself, although the process was quite easy. These do work with my mazda 3 (in so far as installing them goes). Fasteners (the yellow and black elastic bands) are included.

These kept us perfectly safe in near whiteout conditions driving up to tahoe last weekend. Definitely make sure to practice installing these first. It took me an hour installing one wheel in the dark because i didn t realize it was upside down. I felt like an idiot. After i figured it out, the others took a couple of minutes. . Advice:. 1) get the recommended snow scraper. I didn t and had to lay down in the snow to get the chains around the tires. 2) you may have to roll your car forward before you ll be able to attach the final hook for each wheel. Our chains were so tight we definitely had to do this. After the rolled forward, it took a little strength but we were able to get the final hook secured.

First off, check the actual size of your tires, do not trust online store s vehicle recommendations alone. They do not have the tire size of my nissan quest correct, they are 235, not 225. Not knowing any better, i purchased the 139 size, whereas the cable manufacturer recommends the 143 size. The 139 s have gotten me through several snow trips in big bear and mammoth, my only complaint being how darn tight and difficult it is to get them on. Well, maybe the right size would help. . Anyway, after three trips, with mostly snow driving but a good portion of driving on bare asphalt, the chains are holding up, with a little bit of rust. Some of the cable insulation is worn, but there is no damage to the cable strands. I do spray corrosion x on them after each trip, but they re on for days at a time in nasty conditions, so there is still a little rust. All told i am happy with their durability, they could be used for several more trips i m sure. The worst thing that happens is they seem to warp a bit after hard use, so rerolling them or laying them on the ground flat is a challenge. I take good care of my gear, but they are kind of a jumbled mess when you re trying to put them on after a few uses, and of course, you re never going to be putting them on in great conditions. . A little more slack in the size sure would make installation quite a bit easier, and it seems that the shur grip version by the same company has an easier installation method to boot. This super z6 version is extremely thin, but my wheel wells and brakes have plenty of clearance, so i don t really need the ultra thin profile. The main difference is, to hook these chains on, you need to match up a coin shaped peg with a keyhole shape and turn it sideways to engage. And just turning it sideways is somewhat difficult with cold, wet gloves on, especially the connectors behind the wheel. I m quite mechanically inclined, still took me 20 minutes to put them on this last trip. Lots of fussing and swearing was exhibited, but again plenty of blame goes to online store for reporting the wrong size and myself for trusting them. Long story short, unless you really need narrow clearance, i d look at another version. My brother-in-law has the shur grip version, which has a simple hook connector behind the wheel, and a much easier ferrule connection method in front of the wheel. I m betting the easier design, on the correct size chains, will make things much quicker in the future.

There are a confusing array of tire chains/traction control devices on the market, and even this particular company makes so many different models that it's hard to tell which ones are the best. Here's what you need to know about chains and traction control devices, and why i like the ones made by scc. I also include some installation hints at the bottom of this review. . There are two broad types of traction control devices: tire chains and traction control cables. Tire chains are actual chain links. Traction control cables are long pieces of metal cables, covered in a plastic coating, and designed to form a z-pattern over your tires. The plastic coating is then surrounded by hundreds of tiny, round, metal springs. Cables are generally regarded as better because they are easier to install, last longer, are less damaging to roads, and work better with vehicles equipped with abs. Also, according to scc, you can safely drive with cable devices up to 30 mph, even on roads with no snow, without damaging them. . You should normally install traction control cables on your drive wheels, i. E. The wheels that actually push or pull your car forward. If the snow is really bad, though, you may have to install cables on all four wheels. Read your vehicle's owner's manual for more details on where to install your cables. . In any case, it's a really, really good idea to have two sets of cables in your car at all times. That way, if something breaks (murphy's law), you won't be stuck. . Within the traction control cable category, there are two general types of cables: self-tensioning cables tighten themselves using a tensioner (which looks, feels, and operates like a rubber band) that you install when you put the cables on. Manual tensioning cables are tightened by you, and have to be re-tightened after you drive for a couple hundred feet or so. I've heard that emergency vehicles tend to use the manually adjustable models because they are allegedly safer at speeds above 30 mph, but driving above 30 mph for any non-emergency personnel is illegal with any kind of traction control device. . There are several advantages to the manually adjustable models. They tend to have more slack, which can make installation easier. Also, the tensioners (i. E. Rubber bands) on self-adjusting cables can and do break (it happened to me today) and if they break, you can't use the cables. So, if you get a cable that has a tensioner, get extra tensioners, or better yet, an extra set of cables, just in case. . Here's a breakdown of scc's cable products:. . Z-chain- manually adjustable traction control cable. Easy to install, but must be retightened shortly after you start driving. Very easy to install because they come with lots of slack. Often used by police and fire personnel. . Shur grip z/super z lt- self adjusting cable. Tensioners can break so buy extras. Less slack, so can be harder to put on the car, but generally easier than z-chains because you don't have to manually tighten and re-tighten them. . Super z6/z8- newest self adjusting cable, designed for vehicles with very little sidewall clearance. They have all the advantages and disadvantages of the shur grip z. In addition, however, the connectors are a little harder to work with on this model because of their low profile. . The z6 and z8 models are scc's latest models. They are designed to handle smaller clearances between the side of the tire and the car than their older models. As a result of that design, they are hand crimped during the manufacturing process (instead of machine crimped), and that results in a slightly higher msrp. Scc's representative tells me that the cable size and metal springs are the same size as their other cable-based products, and so the only reason to not to get the z6's over the older models (super z's) is that the z6's are slightly more expensive (usually only a few dollars). I've noticed that the z6 connectors are a little harder to work with than the shur grip/super z lt model. . On all of these models, the metal rings are made of a spring-like material, scc says that you don't have to remove the chains as soon as you reach a paved road. Rather, as long as you drive under 30 mph, scc says that you can drive with the traction control cables on your car, even as you switch between plowed and non-plowed roads. Because each of the hundreds of little springs are separate pieces, even when one breaks, it just falls off, and the others work to fill-in the void. . The z6/z8 models also come with a very nice cloth bag that is sized properly to hold the cables. The older cable-based scc models come with plastic containers that are too small to easily lay the cables in. . Installing the cables is relatively easy, and i'm definitely not a hands-on kind of guy. It took me about 15 minutes the very first time, and now that i've done it several times, i can get it done in under a minute per wheel. Scc has a video on their web-site that explains how to do it. You should always do a test-installation of cables before you need them to make sure that you purchased the correct size and know how to install it. It's also very useful to have some waterproof gloves handy and a towel with you, as it is often wet and cold when you need to install chains. A good choice for gloves are the long wristed rubber gloves that you can buy at the grocery store for washing dishes, or some disposal latex gloves. After you use the cables for the first time, fold each cable separately and then use a trash bag tie to keep each one together. Otherwise, the next time you need them, they'll all be tangled together. . Here are some hints on how to install these chains. . 1. Read the instructions from the manufacturer and pay close attention to the safety instructions. The basics of the instructions are (1) stay safe, (2) position the cables correctly, (3) connect the upper rear connector, (4) connect the upper front connector, (5) connect the lower front connector, and (6) connect the black rubber bands. . The instructions are quite good, but they leave out a few helpful hints, which i will now share with you. . Before you start, make sure you have the correct side up! there are markings all over the cables which indicate the correct orientation. Look for them! . . 2. Put on some rubber dishwashing gloves and lay a towel down wherever you're going to work, or you will get very, very dirty. . 3. When you slide the cables under your tires, start from a point between your front and rear tires. Slide half of the chain under your car, and then reach around from the other side of the tire to pull the cable around. Although the instructions describe a swinging slide motion, i've never seen anyone who could do that without twisting the cables up. Just pull them and things will be much easier. . 4. Once the cables are around the tire, do not pull the bottom connectors that hold the cables together at the bottom of the tire towards one another. Keep them as far apart as possible. If you pull them in tight, you won't be able to pull the chain high enough in the back to connect the rear upper connector, which is what you are supposed to do first. . 5. When you are connecting the rear upper connector, if you can't get the rear upper connectors up above the tire so that you can see them, push the part of the cables that surround the bottom of your tire backwards and under your car a few inches. This will create slack behind the cables and allow you to pull the cables up in the back. . 6. Once you have the rear upper connector connected, hooking up the front upper connector may be difficult. Try pushing the rear upper connector back so that it is laying against the inside sidewall of your tire and then pull the front upper connectors towards you as hard as you can. Don't try to pull them towards each other. While sitting, just pull them straight out, towards you, and the rest of the chains should fall into place. Then they should be easy to connect. . 7. Gently pull the parts of the chain that criss-cross your tires down towards the ground so that they aren't all bunched up at the top. Look at the chain and make sure that the parts you can see, and especially the blue cable, is evenly distributed around the tire. . 8. Then pull the bottom front connectors towards you (out, but not up or down) to create slack. Then connect them. Again, don't try to pull them towards one another as that makes it almost impossible to create slack. . 9. On these particular cables, the upper front connector is black and the bottom front connector is silver. When you're ready to take the cables off, if you get the wheel lined up so that the black connector is on the top, it will be much easier to find and remove the rear connector (which will be opposite the black connector).

Never lived in climate where i needed chains until recently. I now live in washington state and decided to take a mini vacation to leavenworth, wa just prior to christmas. Had to pass through snoqualmie pass and one other lesser pass. I chose these chains solely based off reviews, primarily them being better than traditional chains and also ease of installation. I received the chains in 2 days (i love prime) and did a dry run on our fwd suv. The first tire took 10 minutes following the directions. Once i understood the sequence, the second tire took under 2 minutes. I packed everything back up into the convenient carry case and off into the cascades we went. Conveniently, a massive winter storm just dropped 18 inches of snow across snoqualmie pass 2 days prior to us going there, and it was still snowing when we went. In the snow/slush on the side of the road, i was able to put these chains on without getting dirty or wet by only wearing gloves. Even more important, i had both wheels done in under 2 minutes per wheel. Performance wise, i could only go 30 mph but i never lost traction. Vibration from the chains is minimized by sustaining a 25ish mph speed, but at slow speed the vibration is brutal. Either way, having complete control over austere terrain was more than comforting. The chains gripped the surface like it owed them money. I felt in control, and not once did i lose control. On the return route, another massive winter storm dropped even more snow and this time it was less plowed and a lot more accumlation on the roadway. Again, i got the chains on in under 4 minutes and i was going up and down the pass without once losing control. They aren't miracle workers, but if you drive as you're supposed to in inclement weather you will not lose control of your vehicle. Both times when i traversed the pass, i stopped the vehicle, took 15 seconds to disconnect the 3 connectors, laid the chains out, backed up, and stacked and rolled both chains in under 5 minutes. I put them back in the bag and was off on my way. Once home, per instructions i took the chains out and gave them a heavy coating of wd-40 and let them dry out including the bag (rivets in the bag already started rusting after this one trip). The chains have thousands of teeth, and i drove primarily on slush with the chains and only lost a handful of teeth. They will certainly last a while and i only recommend buying an additional set of rubber tensioners as they seem to be the most likely point of failure. I did order a second set as the chains are useless without them and they easily fit in the chain storage bag. Simple review is below:. . Pro:. -once the sequence is understood, the chains are incredibly easy to put on. I never watched the video and just looked at the included instructions for a few minutes. -can't compare traction ability to traditional chains, but i never lost control. You can see the deep grooves the chains make in snow and ice though. They grip exceptionally well. -both chains roll up neatly into an easily transported package and the included carrying bag is sized appropriately where it is easy to put the chains back in plus extra tensioners if desired. . Cons:. -they do cost more than traditional chains, but after watching dozens of others fight with traditional chains while being snowed on the cost difference is justified. What took others 10 minutes took me half the time - and i never got dirty (so long as you wear gloves). -the tensioner is a solid rubber ring with 6 plastic clips. As previously discussed, i feel this to be the single point of failure for the whole system. Rubber loses elasticity in the cold, and most people dont use chains in warm weather. During extended wear i could imagine the rubber hardening and eventually snapping from the pressure. Fortunately, additional tensioner packs are available and they fit in the carrying case included with these chains. . Tl; dr:. These chains are absolutely worth the additional price. They grip exceptionally well and they are simple to put on and remove.

I haven't used these in the snow yet so my review doesn't cover how useful, or not, they would be under those conditions. I did put them on the front tires of my 2002 toyota rav4 to check the fit. I had no trouble putting them (and the tighteners) on or taking them off and the enclosed instructions, while brief, were clear and easy to understand. They appear to be a good fit as explained in the instructions. The carrying bag seems rugged enough, though getting the chains back in was a tight fit and i wish it were a tad larger. I can see that i will have to be careful about how i roll the chains up after every use if i want to get them in the bag. . Some reviewers posted that they stretched out the tighteners before putting them on which, to me, seems to defeat their purpose. I had no trouble putting them on as they are. . The enclosed pair of gloves are pretty thin plastic and i don't know how useful they will be for multiple uses so i will be replacing them with something more durable. All in all i am happy with this purchase. I got these for emergency use only since i very rarely drive anywhere where there is snow on the ground, but i will feel more comfortable having these with me if i feel like taking a drive up into the sierras for whatever reason.
